Objectively the economy is in a good place overall. Obviously we all want prices to decline back to pre-covid levels but there’s no obvious solution to that. Trump sold the narrative that that was entirely BIDENS fault and neither Biden or Harris could figure out a way to convince Americans otherwise.

I’d point out tho, that the ‘24 election was hardly the wipeout republicans would have everyone believe. Due to the senate map, they were expected to take back the majority with Dems playing defense in too many red states - Pennsylvania was the only state I was surprised to see them lose. They did gain 1 seat in the House and the final tally for president is far from the mandate trump is claiming.
So yes, I’d say Dems lost overall because of feelings - their attempts to fight those perceptions came off to enough voters as them being smug as you pointed out.
To win back the presidency in ‘28 they will need to figure where they went wrong with messaging to win back the groups they lost this cycle.
