Donald Trump bashed Pope Francis' criticism of his call to build a border wall, framing the Christian leader as being duped by the Mexican government.

Trump also argued Francis has publicly questioned his faith with a statement that said building walls "is not Christian."

“For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. I'm proud to be a Christian and as president-- I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now with our current president," he said.

“No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion and faith.”
Trump also argued that Vatican City could come under attack from Islamic terrorists, and that the pope would then be glad if Trump were president.

“If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president because this would not have happened,” Trump read from a statement at a Thursday rally in South Carolina.

Oh, the irony of the bolded. He's criticized the Pope before though, but said that he thought the Pope was a nice guy.

Coming from a man who lives behind walls of a guarded city, that statement loses credibility.

I definitely think the Pope needs to tear down the Vatican's walls. You know, to prove he is a Christian.

That being said, somebody please beat Trump for the nomination. Hearing about him constantly had grown old for me.

The pope should be ashamed of himself. Does the Pope realize that Mexico secures it's southern border very aggressively? When is going to tear down the walls of the Vatican. Will he load his plane full of immigrants when he flies back to his walled little country? I'm catholic and I'm ashamed of this clown. Sic him Donald.

Watch the HBO Vice special on ISIS and the interviews they conduct. Trump is not that far off with what he is saying about them and what their goal is of where they want to go.

Keep in mind that this particular pope is a Bolivarian-style socialist and has frequently criticized Capitalist ways. Why would he like a Presbyterian Hotelier and condominium developer?

Trump is correct in this case.

Donald replies...

In response to the Pope:

If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians.

So basically he's a democrat!!

The Pope is being hypocritical here. The Vatican is a walled city and Francis is speaking in a country with a far stricter immigration policy along its southern border than what we have.

Seems the echo chamber's first line of defense today is the Vatican wall, as repeated above.

Um, better move on to the Pope's a commie or whatever is next, because the Vatican Wall opens onto a plaza that admits untold millions annually, 4.3 million of whom go on to pay to visit the museum.

Do they get to stay there if they don't want to leave?

I think the Pope overstepped himself. I did see some analysis today that because English is his fourth language perhaps he got tripped up a little. I don't think he should have mentioned Trump by name and kept it to something like a general comment about building bridges versus walls.
For all of Trump's outrage it has been pointed out numerous times today that just last week Trump was calling into question the religious credentials of Ted Cruz. I guess it's okay if he does it.

I agree with Trump. Maybe the pope should worry about other things, like getting his head cut off in 2 seconds if he went to the middle east.

But yeah, he has got to do more important things like calling Trump a non-christian because of a damn wall.

Always thought the pope is nothing more than another human DB, this latest one has cemented that thought.

People say this from time to time. But I have to question how true it is considering how many illegals come from states south of Mexico. Maybe this is Trumps real plan. Get Mexico to build a real wall along their southern border. That might even be a pretty good plan that avoids a lot of problems for the US.

Just another case of a politician telling his constituents what they want to hear........and I'm not talking about Trump.

I have no issues with Mr. Trump's reply to the pope.

I think this is a plus for Trump. The Pope is wrong, and he shouldn't be messing with the election, anyway.
