I have to think that Trump just wasn't thinking about what he was saying. Unbelievable if he does actually believe this.

NEWTON, Iowa — Donald J. Trump, who earlier in the week said he was open to requiring Muslims in the United States to register in a database, said on Thursday night that he “would certainly implement that — absolutely.”

Mr. Trump was asked about the issue by an NBC News reporter and pressed on whether all Muslims in the country would be forced to register. “They have to be,” he said. “They have to be.’’

When asked how a system of registering Muslims would be carried out — whether, for instance, mosques would be where people could register — Mr. Trump said: “Different places. You sign up at different places. But it’s all about management. Our country has no management.’’

Asked later, as he signed autographs, how such a database would be different from Jews having to register in Nazi Germany, Mr. Trump repeatedly said, “You tell me,” until he stopped responding to the question.

Both Mr. Trump and Ben Carson, the top two Republican presidential candidates in most polls, have made sharply provocative remarks about Muslim refugees from Syria and Iraq, and have been criticized by Muslim groups in the United States.

On Thursday, Mr. Carson seemed to equate refugees’ seeking entrance to the United States to “a rabid dog running around your neighborhood.’’ Both Mr. Carson’s and Mr. Trump’s remarks came the day the House voted to severely restrict the flow of Syrian and Iraqi refugees into the United States, amid security concerns after the terrorist assaults in Paris.

Whenever I read the phrase " seemed to equate" I know that I am about ready to read a lie.

Constitution be damned, I guess. Don't we get enough of that from Barry?

Founding Fathers would be rolling over in their graves at the thought of limiting immigration by religion.

I'm very conservative and I have no problem with systematically allowing 20,000 to 50,000 properly vetted Syrian refugees to enter the U.S and disperse them evenly amongst the lower 48 states. That satisfies the humanitarian compassion obligation.

It's not our problem that there are millions of refugees and many are muslim. I feel sorry for the Germans. It won't be long and they'll have to deal with requests to shift to sharia law in their communities. I hear it is happening already. How long before there is a clash between the muslims and the skin-heads/neo-nazis in Duetschland?

Bringing in 80,000+ refugees to America as the Administration wants is too high a number for me.

One thing has changed since the days of the founding of the Constitution; we have 330 million citizens and have less of a need (if any) to encourage further immigration. BHO says we are not 'acceptional', so why should anybody want to move here anyway? Doesn't make sense.

To take on continued massive numbers of immigrants and refugees (documented or undocumented) is foolish and will drive us to become one of the largest 3rd world sh%tholes in the world.

Maybe we can make them wear some sort of a symbol on their clothes so everyone knows they're Muslim. Or better yet tattoo an ID number on their arms.

This would be better. Make them present it to anyone with a smart phone.

Yeah, that would be somewhat radical.

That's not what he said, though.....

After they register we should send them to a camp to concentrate on their behavior or the behavior of people they have never met.

The Obama administration has only expressed a desire to admit at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next year--well within the amount you consider reasonable. I'm not sure where you got the 80,000 figure, but I suspect you might be looking at the total refugees allowed from all other countries worldwide. That number has varied between 70,000 and 80,000 annually over the last 10 years. The Obama administration has proposed lifting that total number to 85,000 in 2016 and 100,000 in 2017. See the link below for more information. Refugees are already extensively vetted. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ting-100000-200000-or-250000-syrian-refugees/

Trump is a #$%@ing idiot. Whether it is purposely to create headlines or if he really believes the crap he spews, he's an idiot. Anyone that supports him for president is also an idiot.

He would be the worst thing to happen to the United States if he is somehow elected president. Any of the other candidates, (and there are some terrible ones,) would be a better choice than Trump.

A dead squirrel would be a better president than Trump.

For the nomination, yes.
For any other candidate it would (well not named Ben that is), but Trump has said some pretty despicable things. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't damage his polling numbers at all. It might actually help them.

I'm thinking Trump's trolling now. It's like he's trying to see how outrageous he can get before his supporters say, "Holy shyte...this guy's nuts".

I don't think he's close to that point yet - I'm not even sure he can get there.
Trump's at his best when he's saying stuff like this. When he was acting semi-normal. his numbers began to slide. Now that he's taken the muzzle off, he's gaining back his supporters. I think he's learned his lesson.

We shall see.

I think he will fade once people have to step in the booth and vote in the primaries. He could start strong, but as things move along, I think someone with more of a professional political background will emerge (Rubio, Bush, Kasich).

At least I hope so.

To ease your mind, at least, Nate Silver thinks he will tank during the primaries. Silver doesn't see a realistic pathway to his nomination. The primary process isn't setup to favor someone like Trump.

That's just it. He should have surpassed the "Wow, this guy is batshit insane and we shouldn't put him in charge of our country", threshold a long time ago. He just keeps getting more and more outrageous and people back him for it even more. I makes me weep for the state of America and the people that live here.
