Trump would require Muslims to register

Read the transcript. The Trump remark that the reporter says was about a database was actually about a wall.
Relevant part:

Reporter: "Should there be a database system that tracks the Muslims that are in this country?" Trump: "There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases. We should have a lot of systems, and today you can do it. But right now we have to have a border. We have to have strength, we have to have a wall, and we cannot let what's happening to this country happen again."
Reporter: "Is that something your White House would like to implement?"
Trump: "Oh, I would certainly implement that, absolutely,"

I don't know, LC. Here's the rest of the exchange right here:

"NBC: Is that something your White House would like to implement?

Trump: I would certainly implement that. Absolutely.

NBC: What do you think the effect of that would be? How would that work?

Trump: It would stop people from coming in illegally. We have to stop people form coming in illegally.

NBC: But Muslims specifically? How would you get them registered?

Trump: It would be just good management. What you have to do is good management procedures. And we can do that.

NBC: Do you go to mosques and sign people up?

Trump: Different places. You sign them up at different places. But it's all about management. Our country has no management.

NBC: Would they have to legally be in this database?

Trump: They have to be. The key is people can come to the country, but they have to come in legally."

Now, it appears that the reporter was trying to stir up some controversy by suggesting it first, but Trump bit and agreed that he would require Muslims to register.

Well, they asked him about the database, and he said yes, then brought up the wall. Seems kind of vague. Let's wait for him to hash it out, I'm sure it will become as clear as all of Trump's proposed policies. ;)

So when Trump says you sign people up a different places, he's referring to what? Signing up people to help build the wall?

Either Trump doesn't know what he's talking about and is easily tricked, or he really does believe that Muslims should have to self-identify similar to the Jews. Either way, Trump looks bad.

I'm thinking Trump's trolling now. It's like he's trying to see how outrageous he can get before his supporters say, "Holy shyte...this guy's nuts".

I don't think he's close to that point yet - I'm not even sure he can get there.

He is mocking the whole system and many Americans. Repubs and Dems alike cannot see it bc they are so wrapped up in their politics.

I love it actually.

He is trolling the American Political system. Once you see it you will stop being angry and instead be incredibly entertained.

Guys, can you not think of better reasons to oppose Trump? If you need help, just let me know, and I can rattle off half a dozen off the top of my head that are better than this one.

Interesting. So a third option? Rile people up with incredibly insensitive remarks that brings up echos of the Holocaust. Not exactly the route I would take, but to each his own, I guess.

But that is what trolls do, you've been here long enough to know that.

If this country were based on a fraction of what it has allegedly stood for, and fought for, then Trump's support should dwindle to "0" by tomorrow morning. It won't, however. I can see the systematic process of Muslims being separated from society and herded into ghettos and then interned. It could happen here very easily. They are a small percentage of our population and enough Americans are totally scared-to-death of everything Islamic. You'd get some dissent, but I could still see it happening. especially if a Paris-type incident occurred. It would be swift in that case. If you did show dissent, you could be thrown in with them.

To ease your mind, at least, Nate Silver thinks he will tank during the primaries. Silver doesn't see a realistic pathway to his nomination. The primary process isn't setup to favor someone like Trump.

Agree.

LC, I would think that with as much as Trump does say that's problematic there is really no reason to make it up. It seems however that's exactly what they are doing. All the dems are falling for it too.

So what does that have to do with the Trump comments above it?
It doesn't. That was said about Carson in the same article . It turns out my inclination was right. The story turns out to a lie. When will gusto say he is sorry he believed it

Yes, a lie if you define a lie to include a reporter asking him if he would do it and he affirming he would do it. Your definition of lie seems a bit of a stretch.

Huey trump looks bad a lot. Which is why trying to tell a lie about what he actually did say makes no sense. This is no different than a few ago when Politico had to re write a story on Carson several times to get a lie closer to the truth

I said in the OP that I had to think Trump just wasn't thinking about what he was saying. I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, and I agree when he says he'd implement that, he's talking about the wall. But can you explain what Trump was talking about when he was says "You sign them up at different places"? He's not talking about a wall there.

I have no idea. The exchange is very confusing( much of that is the reporters fault) but to say that he defiantly said what they say he said is beyond belief untrue. Like the lie Politico tried to peddle about Carson, some reporters want to become famous by taking down a Republican and sometimes they have to lie to it

I don't understand what you are trying to say here. Are you saying I defiantly said he said that? Again, I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he just wasn't thinking about what he was saying. But trying to blame this one on the media is pretty weak unless you can explain the "you sign them up at different places" line. Because he definitely said that. That's not a lie.

1. The Nazi's were great managers.
2. You don't need much baiting to get Trump to say something inflammatory.

Guys, can you not think of better reasons to oppose Trump? If you need help, just let me know, and I can rattle off half a dozen off the top of my head that are better than this one.

Please list them. Just ten would be fine. You don't need to give the full dozen.

Typical Trump, he's walking back from his comments. That's been his pattern all along. He makes a statement that stokes the passion of the far right, and the next day he says he didn't say that at all, or he was misconstrued, and he pivots to something else. He is a master showman. Too bad it's the country he's trying to run and not a tv show.

BOOM!

And Lone Clone goes back in hiding. With the other 3 (or so) who made this claim but never backed it up. Hey, at least LC made the effort to back it up. Points for that.
