T's & P's to Marcus Paige

That kid has some SERIOUS hang time! On multiple occasions on contested shots he hung and contorted, etc. He played one hell of a game. Glad Carolina lost, that's for certain, but Paige was a warrior.

That shot he made to tie it would have been shown for the next 50 years had they won, as it is it will be shown plenty in years to come. That was some CLUTCH stuff from young Mr. Paige. Well done young man, but still glad your team got beat.

Yeah, just like Ross P in football, hard to fault a kid for wanting to go to historically the best teams in their respective sports, ESPECIALLY when those choices come at a time when our programs are looking miserable at the time.

Of course a REAL man would still pick the Hawks and bring us to that elite level themselves!

Ross originally committed to Iowa at a position that we develop just as well as Alabama. The gripe against him is more justified.

Agree Legend, but KF and the program was looking B A D, in all caps, at the time he decommitted to Iowa if you remember. I mean, things were looking TERRIBLE!!! EVERYONE thought the program was dead and were calling for KF's head on a platter.

Of course, then KF goes on the magical run that no one was expecting, but still.

Still hard to blame the kid I guess, and the fact that he now he has played and already won a national championship probably is a good reminder of that fact.

Definitely don't see why anyone should hate a kid for his choice. OTOH if that kid chooses Carolina I will be cheering against him pretty hard. I'm guessing Marcus couldn't care less, so it's nit like I'm hurting anyone's feelings.

Exaggerate much? Don't answer... it was more rhetorical in nature than anything else. Everyone already knows of your penchant to try to paint Iowa in the worst possible light.

It is hard to cheer for Paige when he turned his back on Iowa, but he really showed his skill and his character last night. I have more respect for him now. But I am still mad he didn't come to Iowa even though he had every right to make the decision he did. I am very glad that Fran and the hawkeyes were able to travel and play his team in their gym and beat them.

Was he ever even remotely interested in Iowa? I know he's from CR, but was he ever a Hawkeye fan when he was young?

I have never hated Paige for leaving to follow his dream. He played a heck of a game tonight, but it wasn't quite enough. I wish he had played for the Hawkeyes but it was not to be.

And anyone objective would have to admit when recruiting relationships were being developed and most of the leg work was done, as a young man at Marcus' age it wouldn't have been difficult to see why being a Hawkeye fan could be tough. I too wish Fran had been able to reel him in at the last minute, but I can understand why it didn't happen and don't fault Paige for that.

By all accounts a great kid who made the best choice for himself. What is there to hate about that? Do you make life decisions based on what complete strangers want you to do?

Loyalty to your state has nothing to do with anything. How many of us have ever moved out of state for a better opportunity? UNC offered him a chance at something that was never going to happen at Iowa, which he came very close to achieving last night. On top of that, there is no way in the world that he would have had the same overall collegiate experience playing for Iowa rather than UNC... two different worlds.

I was happy to both see him play well and for UNC to lose.

Wanting his team to lose because he went there does not equal hating. For me it's a preference. Don't want the Hawks? Fine. Don't expect me to root for you.

So in a game between two teams not named Iowa you are rooting for both teams to lose since neither teams' players chose to be Hawkeyes? I hate to break it to you but not everyone grows up being an Iowa fan like you and I. Same goes for in-state kids.

That was sweet.

Um, wut? Was rooting for Nova.

I think Paige lost to every Iowa team UNC faced during his career, though he didn't play against UNI.

Well that's their fault.

The beauty of watching Paige is I was happy when his shot went in (Iowa boy) and happy when it didn't (spurned Iowa). Hard to beat that kind of entertainment.

I disagree with about everyone regarding Paige's last shot. It was 1% skill, 99% luck and 100% stupid. NC had plenty of time to take a better shot. He needlessly took a shot that had a 5% chance of going in. Not a hero move but a goat move. He should have passed to Berry. Berry was open for an easy pass and a reasonable shot. I don't know if Paige was selfish, stupid or too pumped up to be in control. Villanova executed a nice designed play. Glad they won.

I think he should've shot it. Was lucky though.

Except the fact that Paige was never committed to Iowa at any point unlike Ross who was.

Not sure how you can't support an Iowa kid on the big stage.

Lol. He shot it with 6 seconds left. You probably would've rather had the "quick two" in that situation like most idiot college fans/players/coaches.

No, fool, I would rather have him make the clear pass to the open three.

Yeah in an ideal world he makes that pass, but this is college kids we are talking about here. Also, when you are down three with under ten seconds to go you usually take the first legitimate shot at the basket you can get from beyond the arc. You typically don't get a second opportunity. I'm guessing Paige never even saw Berry considering the situation.

Wow...college athletes can't win when it comes to us Iowa fans. He goes out of state to play at his dream school, he gets hated on. He comes to Iowa to turn the program around but doesn't live up to the recruiting hype, he gets hated on. It's a wonder we get anyone to come to Iowa to play sports.

Simple: Iowa kid in name only.
It's pretty simple, really. I (and apparently may others) hate North Carolina and they had no business being in the tournament. If Paige had gone to almost ANY other school I would cheer for him to play well. But he didn't. As I've said before, I'm sure he doesn't care that I live in Iowa and yet I cheered against him and his team. Wish him well in life but refuse to cheer for UNC. If you care so much about my cheering for you, don't play for a team that I hate.
