It’s official this defense is hands down the worst at Iowa for at least a decade

D has been slipping for awhile. Brought this up many times and was laughed at by the Kool Aid drinkers. The depth has been thinning out and we are seeing serious cracks in the starting lineup now.

Honestly though the D has been a bit of a paper tiger. The D has really struggled against top 25 teams with legit offenses these past several years. They've given up just shy of 34ppg. The Iowa D has always padded their stats against weak B1G West teams and a weak non conference. They then fail to flex their muscles against the best of the B1G and in bowl games.

This game sealed it.

24 points should’ve been enough to win this game.

Can’t decide if the D backs or D line were the worst group for the season as a whole.

Probably a tie but each unit would underperform the other on a game to game basis.
Yet the coaching philosophy was the exact same with not a single adjustment or any kind of play that could confuse the opponent.

Can't disagree, but show me any other decent team in college football who would have gone the entire game yesterday without blitzing. What the hell is Phil thinking? The Iowa D stopped Missouri maybe 2 or 3 times the whole game. Otherwise, it was Missouri missing wide open receivers or receivers dropping the ball. It was shocking that the Missouri QB missed a throw all day. He had a week to stand back there like he was in his living room and survey the field. Nobody at any level of football can expect DBs and LBs to cover receivers for that long. And Iowa was without its best CB.

There were several key plays that demanded a blitz, but Parker stayed with the laughably ineffective 4-man "rush," and Iowa got burned all day long as a result. Fortune favors the bold. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. But don't tell Phil or KF that.

BTW: I don't suppose the refs might have called holding on Missouri once or twice could they? I guess not. LOL They were too busy making bogus targeting calls and flagging Iowa for a bogus late hit out of bounds and the egregious Iowa mistake of having five men in the backfield on a punt . . .

There was no reason to call holding because our d linemen were playing some kind of contain defense like they were playing against Lamar Jackson. I would love to hear what Phil's game plan was for yesterday. Normally when you make a team 1 dimensional it gives you an advantage. In this case it gave the advantage to Mizzou. 3rd and ten and 8 seconds to pass ? Oh, guess I'll throw it to the guy 15 yards down the field for a first down while our d line stands around and waits for him to scramble.

Really surprised we didn't use Castro as a spy, but then that would be scheming to take advantage of what an opponent does and KF doesn't do that.

Refer to the Rose Bowl and CMC for further evidence.

I had forgotten about that game temporarily. Thanks for reminding me.

back end was awful
Cook carved their a$$es up all afternoon .
X is a bust

CAstro disappeared this year.
Bad bad secondary
It was telling in the preseason that Phil said his biggest concern was the secondary. I thought they’d at least be solid if not great. They were bad most of year.

Edit: I see Gunnerhawk noted this earlier as well.
