Thanks as always Blair. I knew I was asking too much for Taylor out at safety but I really thought this was the week Rastetter got replaced by literally anyone.

I'm just a know nothing rank amateur, but I sure wish Welsh was playing guard where he is better suited, and giving one of the tackles of the future some experience.
I agree. Move Welsh to G, start Wirfs at RT. I, too, do not pretend to know more than the Iowa coaches but this seems like a no-brainer.

Any updates on Noah Clayberg? Is he close to cracking the 2-deeps at safety?

I agree on Wirfs. This would be a perfect week for it. Gets a full game experience heading into a bye week so can practice for multiple weeks straight with the 1's. I mean his shirt is already pulled and our Oline has looked horrible for the most part. Get Welsh back to his natural position and get our future playing. My 2 cents.

Good 2 cents. Heck everything went so well last week, why change things up.

It needs to be prove it time on the o-line. Either perform or play someone who will. I did notice after Myers missed a block vs MSU he was gone the next play in favor of Reynolds.

Boone is not moving well and I think needs this week and the bye to get himself right. A healthy number 2 is better than an unhealthy starter!

you need to tell KF of your brilliance about who should play and who shouldn't,

It's quite obvious that the current starters are not getting it done. How much more frustration should Wadley endure before something changes.

why because Iowa did not beat defending BT Champions and is rated the #4 team in both polls. its real clear you know nothing about the MSU vs Iowa series, going into that game the series under KF was 8-8 with 14 games decided by 7 points or less and 2 games that were decided by 10 or more points 1 by each team the all time series Iowa had a 2 game edge.

now with you Professional expert opinion the starters are not getting it done.

KF's call in show is coming up so you can call in or better yet it is held in the Olive Garden in IC and is open to the public. go there or call in and give your Professional OPINION.

I think this week and the bye week could be an excellent time to get Wirfs a lot of reps (if healthy) and get Welsh back to guard where he excels.

The MSU loss was not surprising to me. It is hard coming back after such an emotional game vs PSU. Hell, most fans were burnt out until Tuesday.

Kilroy do you actually watch the games? Ever heard of "bullies of the big10". Everything the Iowa football program has been built on is "hard nosed, tough guys who play with a chip on their shoulder because team x didn't want them" (which I would love to get away from and be a destination school of at least 2 or three position groups, "O line U" "RB U" "TE U" "CB U".... etc)
That being said we have been WHIPPED ON the offensive line ALOT this year, and admittedly we have high expectations. PSU was a EMOTIONAL game against a good team and most people were ok with what happened. MSU was our bread and butter. It was supposed to be the two biggest"slow" guys in the conference in a bareknuckle slugfest and we got out toughed and it wasn't the first time this year. You could make an argument North Texas "out toughed" us in the first half of thst game. NDSU sure as heck "out toughed" us.

People on here keep calling for Wirfs, but IIRC he didn't even dress for PSU because of an injury. Why put him in now? Wait until after the bye week so he is 100%.

We would be in much better shape if we had kept Myers out until he was 100%. Now he is completely ineffective because he hasn't had a chance to heal. IMHO, Reynolds at 100% is better than Myers at 50 or 60%.

No one wants to see Wirfs just dominate guys like I do, especially if that puts Welsh back at LG, but let's make sure he is 100% first.

yes I watch the games and I also take into consideration all of the changes made to the OL
RT Boettger 6'6 300+ lbs was replaced by 6'3 295 Welsh
LT RSSR Myer was replaced by RSFR Jackson,
Myer just came back from injury and started at LG making JR Reynolds a 1st year starter the 2nd string LG
JR Render who was the starting LG has been moved to the Starting RG position.
I also take into consideration all the 1st year players that are on the offense something most of you IGNORE.

I sure hope Iowa comes out mad and swinging after 2 tough losses and beats down a tired Illinois team...

Another thing is that fans are having some hyper unrealistic expectations of Wirfs level of play as a true freshman. What if he were to play and he looked like a human turnstile? That would much more likely set BACK his development ... than to set him up for success.

This fantasy football philosophy of thinking you can just plug and play players just because they're not performing to your expectations is foolish, childish, and unrealistic. Iowa's OL play almost always takes a little while to come together ... particularly when they've had to juggle around the parts.

Snyder was at MSU and dressed. Mixed reports of if he had a helmet on or not. They don't usually take injured players on the road for fear of burning a roster spot on a person that won't play. Snyder should be back after the bye, I would think. I hope, for that matter.

The assumption that he will be an average or plus player at RT as a freshman is truly ridiculous. People have absolutely zero idea how he has performed in practice, yet they want to bench guys to open a spot for Wirfs at tackle.

Could he be an average B1G RT right now? I guess. But it seems pretty improbable.

Yes, just the fact that they burned a travel roster spot on Snyder is a sign that he is very close to playing.

You're right, we don't know. Alabama started a true freshman at RT last year Andhra excelled. Not impossible, but improbable.

Does it count as a roster spot if they are in street clothes? Snyder was at ISU on the sideline, but not in uniform

Wadley did not play well either. Was impatient and missed some cutbacks and blocked like shit accounting for 2 of the 3 sacks.

I imagine it does count. Otherwise, teams would bring like 15 guys and just have them not dress.

Are the instate rules different than out of state? I know that James Daniels celebrated with a few non-traveling, but do you get more roster spots in state?

The non-traveling guys were in the stands at ISU, not on the sideline. They traveled on their own dime.

for road games the roster that goes can be no more than 85. but at home everybody on the roster can suit up.
