Tyler Cook

I mean what are you wanting at this point? His footwork and defense sucks, probably because he's never had to use it. That's teachable.

You guys are a little sensitive, I never said he sucked and wouldn't get better jeez. Step back boys just making an observation of who he reminds me of at this point, lighten up.

The immediacy of reinforcement thing gets a little old. Less than a season of play, only about 18 years old and he's a ball hog and the second coming of Gerry Wright. Wave your hands and say "who me?" It's a mere observation that he's : "good for a few good dunks, but that's about it."

I don't think it has occurred to him that he needs to put the same effort in on defense and rebounding as he does on offense. Cook has NBA level athleticism and ability to finish but he needs to develop the other parts of his game. Great problem to have.

At least own your opinion. What is with this crap lately of people making a hard statement then whining when people call them out on it.

You made a stupid statement, don't get all butthurt when people call you out on it.

Tyler Cook was not going to reach his college potential
in his first four Big Ten games. He is still a raw talent
that needs to be developed on both offense and defense.

Bottom Line: Tyler Cook will not be a one and done player
at Iowa and go to the NBA after one season..

Seems to be Gerry Wright 2.0, good for a few good dunks but that's about it.
This post (your original post) is why others are poking you. As noted, he has played in what, 10 games? And only 4 since returning from a broken finger on his shooting hand? That he broke 6 weeks ago? That he is playing at all speaks volumes about his toughness.

Would agree that Pendleton has better all around game right now (defense, post moves, rebounding, free throw shooting ) but cook has a ton of upside that will take him past Pendleton, IMO. But glad we have them both

Well if he's not going to develop by his fourth conference game Fran should be fired!

Fran hit the lottery with Pemsl and Cook. Ryan Kriener will be a fine player as well, I hope he sticks around. Jordan Bohannon is a fine player as well and will be even better as he gets stronger. This is a fantastic Freshman class especially if you include Moss.

When he learns to play aggressively on both ends and works on getting rebounds he will be a beast. This is not a given and the majority of his needed growth IMO is mental committment not physical.

A lot of talented kids can coast on their physical skills in high school and some take a long time to learn to play with the intensity
required in college.

Pemsl is a better baller in my opinion

Cordell Pemsl turns the ball over more often in his minutes played than anyone else on the team...including Cook & major ball handlers such as JBo. Both freshman big men will get better but to say CP is a better baller is quite the statement.

I love the kid & am happy that we have BOTH Pemsl & Cook.

I'm not down on Tyler Cook, but he has clearly been outplayed on both ends of the court by the majority of his freshman teammates. He's explosive and can dunk well. Right now that's about all he's got. I expect him to get much better and he'll need to. I expected all the talk about the early NBA exit to be nonsense, and that is abundantly clear he's a long way away from that happening. Keep working Tyler.

Um, maybe it has occurred to him, maybe it hasn't. Either way, he's a true freshman and if a true freshman comes in with defensive liabilities that could take as many as two seasons to put in the type of work (film and practice) to get significantly better. He's not going to show up and magically be a better defender this year. He'll make the most progress in the offseason. Same with the other players with very little experience. Whatever flaws they have in their game right now will probably not be significantly improved until another offseason of work is put in.

Sorry, not picking on you, HawkLogic, it just happened to be your post where I finally said, "Okay, I think this needs to be said." Cheers.
