Tyler Cook

It is hard to judge Cook based on this game. He didn't get the ball much and looked to play solid team ball. On the other side, he wasn't as aggressive offensively or going after rebounds as I would like to have seen.

I only saw the second half but Tatum kind of took over and then it was him and the lefty guard putting up most of the shots. I agree with others, guys want to get theirs in a TV game, but he is a big body and looks like he moves well. Even though he missed his free throws it does look like he has a decent stroke from the line.

Obviously he didn't put up a great stat line but I am excited to see him in a Hawk uniform.

His entire team are ball hogs/black holes

this is why a number of freshman struggle when they get to college - especially on the defensive end. Some high school coaches are not good at teaching fundamentals'...and allow their players to drift defensively. I'm not sure some of the youngsters would listen anyway.

Love what I see from Cook - Fran & staff will do wonders with him in a very short period of time.

Easy to see why Fleming struggles with shot selection.

and defense. Oak Hill destroys people because of the collection of talent offensively...they don't have to work hard on defense and for the most part don't.

I'm still very positive on Fleming...but I'm sure he will need to prove it in practice (multiple practices)..

I think Fleming IS proving himself in practice for Fran to give him some play in games. Freshmen need that one good first performance to get them jump started. He'll get that soon.

Perhaps between basketball academies instead of high schools, and AAU ball, and all the international players the pros draft......

Maybe after all that, it is time to recognize the education crisis that not only causes us to fall behind in engineers and other such rocket scientist type people, but in skilled basketball players as well?

It's like kids are coming up with all the individual talent in the world but no idea how to play a five man basketball game.

Not saying he isn't proving himself in practice - I don't know I'm not there. Are you? The fact is Fleming has not played in the last 2 games - one was a 20+ blowout.

One good first performance would be great but need to get into the game to do that. It starts with practice. I have no reason to believe that Fleming wont do exactly that.

After the FSU game, Fran was asked about the team being light with Dale Jones injured. He said, "I still can go to Christian and Andrew, comfortable with those two guys". He wouldn't say that if Andrew was not doing well in practice.

I was hoping for more. I know he had foul trouble and his teammate was taking center stage, and they didn't pass it to him, but he looked like a role player, not a 4 star.

He really didn't have the ball in a position to score that much. If his teammates made shots, he probably would have had 6 or 7 assists (There was one really nice find while he was standing near the top of the key, and he hit a guy down on the block, but the guy dribbled under the hoop and didn't give himself a shot, eventually turning it over I think). His fadeaway in the first quarter was impressive.

Foul trouble probably played a part in his aggressiveness on the boards/defense. Also, give some credit to the Oak Hill guy too. Did a nice job defensively.

I put a frozen burrito inside a microwave. I turned that on and put it all in a second microwave and turned that on. Then I put the whole thing in a huge microwave and turned that on.

It was a burrito to begin with and just like that I could tell it wasn't a burrito anymore!

There are times your references get past me... then there is this... Unless you're talking about a burrito lift, I need more context!

No use getting in a hurry. Such as evaluating Tyler from one game. We try to determine the kind of player he is too fast and we won't know what kind of player he is at all.

Cook was open on the low post the entire first half. They just never got him the ball. This is obviously still Tatum's team. There's a reason he is going to Duke.

Well, we know Cook's a very physical, very athletic player. It was encouraging to hear that he's a good passer. That seems to be the way Fran has coached other big players at Iowa. I think the expectations his frosh year are going to be that he rebounds and defends the post. Not sure what kind of scorer he's going to be initially but I think he'll pick up more points than Woody did his first year just because of his physical presense. Like Woody, I think he's destined to be a starter his first year. Did he block some shots in this game?

Hopefully there is a lot more to the young man than he showed last night. Missed 2 FTs at a critical time and was standing around a lot. I'm sure one game is not enough to judge from, but you'd think a HS game televised by ESPN would be easy to get up for...

there is a reason why Andrew Fleming has not played the last 2 games...especially one where we had a 27 point lead at one point...

Fran will never say he doesn't feel comfortable with one of his players...and certainly would never say someone was "not doing well in practice". That's not his DNA ... same token saying he is comfortable is one thing...not playing someone says a whole lot more.

For now Fran is playing 9 guys...with Uhl, Ellingson, Baer & Wagner as the rotation reserves...which is plenty.

I'm not knocking Fleming...he has great upside, its just he is learning for now.
