UFC - Cassioppi

Slight tangent, how's Pico doing? He fighting still?

That kid had the most hype of any wrestler back several years ago.
Good question, kid had a lot of talent. I believe he may have gotten a large chunk of change to sign on? Thing is, as you asked. Is he still fighting? I said it then that I felt it wasn't the best move for the kid. Some did say he did not have the grades though to continue on in college?

I do not see BIG Cass as a UFC fighter? Maybe I am wrong but he just does not seem to fit that mold.

Pico is still fighting. He hasn’t had the success many people thought. He’s also faced several injuries. Dislocated his shoulder in the last fight and convinced the doc to let him continue for a little while. Really bad look for the sport.

Thanks for the info. Do not really follow too closely. Obviously big risk with possible big reward. That is why my thinking was. No reason to jump in so quickly. Maybe if college wrestling was not in the cards for him? You try the Olympic training center. I guess there might be risk doing that also if a big offer is thrown at you?

Meaning, say they gave him a million dollar offer(I do not know), and he declined and went to train at the OC. Then he did not do to well or got hurt. Maybe that offer is now off the table? Thinking it would be very hard as a young man to turn down big money to do basically what you love! Hopefully it all works out for him, if not, is he still eligible, and what weight class can he make? LOL

Being a high level grappler and a strong background in boxing will serve him well. Now he'll need to learn how to fight off his back and defend the various submissions. If he can take a shot, I like his chances to have some success.

i think Big Cass would have a great shot at being a Greco Guy for our Olympic team. He definitely has the technique and strength to be serious about Greco and wouldn't have to fight off the leg shots that he has been vulnerable to in Collegiate wrestling at times. I would also hate to see him in the UFC and getting his great smile damaged.

Tony is a great candidate for MMA. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and never lost a fight. Super nice young man, but he’s also a fierce competitor once the whistle blows. I think he would be fantastic given the combination of his boxing background and his wrestling prowess.

His great smile and personality plus his history as a Hawk could be a positive for recruiting, too. He’d be a crowd favorite based not only on personality but also what I think would be great success in the octagon.

I stand corrected. I did not know of his boxing background.

There have been some fairly successful bulkier UFC guys from what I recall. I can see him being a decent draw.
