I don’t anticipate he’ll keep hitting from 3 like this but, getting to the basket, limiting turnovers, and playing good defense…..makes for a very good piece to the puzzle.
His shot form looks good so I don't necessarily see why we should expect it to not hold up.I don’t anticipate he’ll keep hitting from 3 like this but, getting to the basket, limiting turnovers, and playing good defense…..makes for a very good piece to the puzzle.
Agree, I was giving him the Petras treatment and he doesn't deserve it. Playing with some confidence.I don’t anticipate he’ll keep hitting from 3 like this but, getting to the basket, limiting turnovers, and playing good defense…..makes for a very good piece to the puzzle.
He has clearly passed Bowen for minutes.Agree and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Ulis has looked like the light came on for him.
I still like Dix playing in the reserve at PG but wish he was a little more aggressive on offense. I won’t complain about what Dix is contributing though.
Edit: Dix’s aggression today looked good, I’ll add. He passed up an open three but it was very early in the shot clock so I can live with that. When he did shoot, he was money.
I loved it today after Rutgers made a big bucket, he came right down, got in the lane and nailed a 15 foot pull-up jumper. The kid can shoot, I really think it was a confidence thing or that he wanted to defer to his teammates too much.8/15 from 3 the past 6 games. That should at the very least force defenses to not sag off on him going forward. That's huge for the spacing of this team.

Dix airmailed one almost exactly the same way against MSU. Other than those bad passes he plays very controlled overall.I’d be okay if Bowen showed more aggression too (completely different game than Dix), but the TOs seem to mount when he does. Hopefully the game slows down for him because he has the tools I believe to be a pretty solid PG.
Dix had a bad pass today, but earned himself some PT.
Hes done that 3 or 4 times, he doesn't look real comfortable handling the ball against full court pressure.Dix airmailed one almost exactly the same way against MSU. Other than those bad passes he plays very controlled overall.
I was talking about the same thing to some friends after the game today. He has better scoring, more active, he is catching up with his brother. And while Perkins is trying to get his mojo back good to have Ulis and Dix shooting and handling the ball while playing good defense.I don’t anticipate he’ll keep hitting from 3 like this but, getting to the basket, limiting turnovers, and playing good defense…..makes for a very good piece to the puzzle.
Hes also getting to the rim far more than he ever has before and finishing most of them.I think Ulis improvement is mostly because he has started pulling up for a 10-15 ft shot instead of driving into trouble. Also, he has mostly taken shots where he wasn't rushed and got set. JMO
That is amazing. Out of nowhere too. I love his mid range pull up game now, he seems to be hunting that shot. He also seems more confident on the contested layups, where he tended to miss most of them previously.8/15 from 3 the past 6 games. That should at the very least force defenses to not sag off on him going forward. That's huge for the spacing of this team.
The Hawks have some very nice pieces, and if the basketball gods finally shine down on the program and they all play at or above expectations, this team will be a tough out.I was talking about the same thing to some friends after the game today. Agree - just eliminate a few of the "unpressured" turnovers and he has certainly solidified the position. The recent shooting has been a pleasant surprise and I hope continues.I don’t anticipate he’ll keep hitting from 3 like this but, getting to the basket, limiting turnovers, and playing good defense…..makes for a very good piece to the puzzle.
He wasn't backing down from the Sparty guards, which was very nice to see.I also like the fire Ulis is starting to show.
This kind of captures an element of my fandom…optimism! IF the pieces come together this could be a lot of fun!The Hawks have some very nice pieces, and if the basketball gods finally shine down on the program and they all play at or above expectations, this team will be a tough out.
Two years ago Ulis was quite tentative when he got in the game - sort of an anti-Toussaint. It's nice to see him developing.Agree and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Ulis has looked like the light came on for him.

Yes, the class of Ulis, Perkins, Patrick, Kris and Ogundele could all be here 2 more seasons if they were to use their COVID year. That's the final class that's eligible.Does Ulis technically have two years left then?
I remember that durring he and Perkins freshman year it was said that playing that year wasn't going to count against their eligibility.
Is that still the case?
Thats what I understood it to be but that doesn't seem to be the way most people are thinking about it.Yes, the class of Ulis, Perkins, Patrick, Kris and Ogundele could all be here 2 more seasons if they were to use their COVID year. That's the final class that's eligible.
I think that it's just one of those things where it's difficult to project who's going to take an extra year and who isn't more than 2 years away. But Ulis, Perkins and Patrick don't really have NBA draft prospects so I would think they are 3 candidates that would consider using it.Thats what I understood it to be but that doesn't seem to be the way most people are thinking about it.
Yeah, they are the typical 6th year profile.I think that it's just one of those things where it's difficult to project who's going to take an extra year and who isn't more than 2 years away. I think it's actually one of those things that could really start to effect 2024 recruiting down the road if there is any indication that a couple of those guys stay--would also unfortunately likely lead to some roster turnover from guys behind them. It's an interesting conversation on roster management for sure.
Theoretically the roster in 2024 could look like:
PG: Ulis, Bowen, Harding
CG: Perkins, Dix, Pryce
Wings: Patrick, Payton
Forwards: Dembele, Koch
Center: Ogundele, Mulvey, Freeman
That's 13 scholarship players without adding anyone to the roster. I'd expect some roster turnover through the portal, but it's an interesting thing to think about for sure.
I actually think he ran the offense better than Toussaint, albeit in sort of a vanilla fashion. I just dont think he had confidence in his shot, it was kind of a mess. Two years ago Ulis was quite tentative when he got in the game - sort of an anti-Toussaint. It's nice to see him developing.
