University of Houston Basketball-Player with Iowa connection

While not applicable to the Hawks I go to UH games(the tickets are free with the FB season tickets we get).

There is a player on the team who is a walkon named Wes Vanbeck. His parents are both Iowa graduates and come to FB game watches once in awhile. The last game I went to he was the leading scorer and did well against E Carolina yesterday. He will undoubtedly get a scholarship next season.

Not someone Iowa would have recruited but he definitely works hard.

Started most games but appears to be pretty insignificant stat-wise. I literally just today read he is now at Houston and looked him up, so definitely an amazing coincidence that this wasn't about Kyle Meyer....

I had forgotten about Meyer. I cant remember the circumstances why he left Iowa. Going to SMU game this evening. Will have to pay more attention to him

Don't think the circumstances were anything more than being buried on the chart. He would basically be competing with Uthoff for playing time this year since he wasn't a true 5.

Went tonight. Although Meyer starts his stats arent very good . He didnt play much of the second half. UH missed four FT in a row at end. Sampson put VanBeck in probably because he is a better FT shooter. He made 1/2. Big win for cougars.
