Huge opportunity for Grothus(or Carton) at 141 - 4 fresh in top 8....

Yes, I know - nothing new, but still can't stop mentioning it... d'oh

hope so. I agree Grothus is getting better each time out but at the same time he doesnt have the muscle he use to IMO. Of course thats an eyeball test but his upper body muscle looks like it lost weight.

If this team peaks at the right time, they can win it. If they perform like they have the last few years at NCAA's, they'll be 3rd/4th.

My concern about Brody is that his absence from the lineup for most of the season will hurt him in seeding. He'll have to go on a real tear over the next few weeks and have a great showing at Big Tens to earn a decent seed. Otherwise, even if he has potential to AA, he'll draw a bad early match-up and probably get bumped to the back side early with a long road to the podium.

Of course, the glass-half-full perspective would be that, since 141 isn't stacked, he might draw a highly seeded guy he can knock off, in which case he inherits the favorable match-ups of a high seed. I could see this happening, actually. Still would obviously prefer a decent seed.

Since BG can beat or lose to anybody I'm not sure it matters where he ends up in the bracket!

I just hope he qualifies for the NCAA's before I worry about where he gets seeded.

I'm real nervous about him qualifying. When he beat the top 4 guys a few years ago, he still only qualified as a wildcard as he went 1-2 at bigs. This year he won't have that luxury.

What the crap NR for Grothus, have they not read the thread? You better get him now because he is coming around. I think when he makes it in, even with a bad match up that may drop him to the backside of the bracket he makes some noise and gets to the podium. He drag races for crying out loud have some faith.

Agreed. Right now all he needs is mat time. He's not the 2nd coming of Metcalf and never has been. The good news for him, neither is anybody else currently in this weight class. Knock the rust off, let the chips fall where they may.

Hopefully he's able to avoid whomever Penn State sends out there, as I have little doubt they'll pin their way thru Big's and NCAA's. Thought I'd save our PSU pals some typing.

I read that a couple of times trying to remember who they had, then I got to the last line.

Agree. It seems Heil & McKenna are the two to beat but they hardly scare anyone. Im sure im off but every time I see those 2 win it seems like its always just a 4-2 type match. More so McKenna. He must have a great defense becuase he doesnt light up the board. Heil seems like he can mix it up score more to match the guy he is wrestling.

IMO Brody would likely lose to Heil right now 6-2 is and Mckenna 4-2 ish. And is just short of beating the Mecate, Ashnault, Thorn types. But good news is the gap is closing and we can see it. Just a matter of how much before BIGS. Its pretty obvoius that any seeding chance for Brody will come out of that.

Otherwise his seeding is gonna be horrible unless he wins the BIGs. Not sure runner up would help him like it should. Win he is prolly a 5/6 type seed. Runner up likely 10 seed.

The seeding sure seem to not like missing over half the season. They have come down hard on that lately. The other is Brody has no big wins at this point yet. And big wins seems like its at the top of the criteria. Bad losses really dont hurt you as bad as they should. A big win weighs more than a bad loss from what ive seen. But low total number of matches just seems to be a deal breaker more so than anything else.

Brewer got hosed because lack of matches to start. Then they looked at elite wins which he really didnt have that to make up for lack of matches. Then his only loss was to Hall which wouldnt have been a big deal at all had he had better wins.

Good news is unlike the Big12 toureny last year. Brody has a chance to get at least 2 good wins. I could see a path that involves Brody beating 2 of the 3 if not all of Thron, Ashnault or Gullibon. Brewer never had that chance to pad a resume with his 4 team tourny BS.

Unlock some of you guys, we out of staters don't get to see anything other than the actual matches via BTN2GO, etc.. That being said, if Thorn is a true top 8 and BG wrestles against upcoming opponents like he's done that past few weeks, he'll be fine WRT seeding. And if he can't beat one of the top 8-10 guys come tourney time, we're screwed just the same. I think he'll bring a decent game...
