Haven’t even made open ceremonies and former Hawkeyes are already scoring bangers in soccer. Cloe Lacasse, stepping up for the defending gold medalists in the biggest start of her career…

Did they forget to sell tickets to that soccer game?

Outside of the host country and maybe the gold medal game, I don't think women's soccer draws well at all in the Olympics
Apart from the US and a few other countries, Jaxhawk is right. Should have made the crowd under the camera side sit opposite side of the stadium.

Both Jok and Gustafson were HUGE for their teams in upset wins: Megan with 29 points and 8 rebounds to lead all starters, Jok played all of the second half after a monster first half off the bench, finishing with 11 points and 6 boards.

China choked. Went for the layup with 5 seconds left while down 3, then didn't even try to foul.

Some updates:

-Hawkeyes new gymnastics coach looks like she might keep the program rising. Canada finished fifth in the team standings and have TWO incoming Hawkeyes.

-Iowa rower Eve Stewart will be in the boat for Great Britain early tomorrow in the race for a medal in the final of women’s eights.

Don't we have 3 incoming Canadian gymnasts?

Meg Gustafson and Spain shockingly crash out in the women’s basketball quarterfinals against Belgium. Meg had almost no help scoring.

With Spencer Lee winning silver, we have gone bronze, bronze, silver. Can the Hawkeyes finish that trend by striking gold with incoming Hawkeye phenom, Kennedy Blades? She will be wrestling for a medal after winning her quarterfinal over the Cuban:

Final Hawkeye Tally: 4 medals overall, with two silver (Lee and Blades in men’s and women’s wrestling) and two bronze (Stewart 8-woman rowing, and Brown in the 200m).

If the University of Iowa was a country, they would be tied overall with Lithuania and in 70th place in the medal count (if Lacasse or Gustafson get bronze in their team sport as they were favored to, we’d be 69th…giggity). The U of I can claim more total medals than Argentina, Egypt, Slovenia, Chile, Morocco, Tunisia and many more. They could claim as many as Portugal, Colombia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Peru, Ethiopia, and Qatar. They were a mere one medal short of Mexico, Austria, Czechia, and Serbia.
