USA Today article on Spencer

This made me chuckle:

“I got some bad reactions,” Lee said of how some in Pennsylvania received his choice. “One guy tweeted me, ‘Congrats, you ruined my 6-year-old son’s day.’ It’s not really your 6-year-old’s decision where I go to college. I would love to make your 6-year-old’s day, but I really like Iowa. A lot of people said I’m a traitor.

Some dude on twitter tweeted him and Gavin that he hopes they have a career ending injury.

Great insight into the relationship between Dennis and Lee. I still find it hard to believe a lighter weight (HS) guy can give Dennis the competition he needs to get ready, but trust that Dennis knows a hell of a lot more than I do, which means Lee is probably even better than I thought he was, which is mind blowing.

This is exactly why I wanted Lee so bad, I, along with everyone else knew he's going to be special. Prior to him signing I wanted him more than any other recruit in the nation, more than hall, fix, anybody. Those guys are great no doubt, but spencer is a 2x world champ (and if you asked where my money was, I'd venture to guess 4x world champ before even starting classes at Iowa), demolishing everybody. He hasn't been tested in high school folk style other than a dec win over Suriano at Super 32, pretty sure everything else has been bonus points. With riding time in college, and as he matures physically, that gap will only widen. I'm still on cloud 9 knowing that he'll be a Hawkeye.

When you see Spencer working out it is obvious why Dan chose him to get him ready. The kid is 110% all the time ...every time. I saw a Kolat video where he explains that our athletes don't need fancy weight rooms or elaborate wrestling rooms to be the best they can be. He explains that you have to maximize what you do have most importantly your time. Spencer half asses nothing. You guys got a freaking beast!
