Uthoff is the best Hawkeye since?

It should be noted that Woolridge was the first B10 player EVER to lead the conference in both points and assists in a season. I'm still pissed they gave conference player of the year to Bobby Jackson. He was a fine player, no doubt, but that should have been Andre's award.

I disagree. Bobby Jackson is one of the best Big 10 point guards I can remember. He was a complete player. Woolridge had great offensive skills but Jackson was also a terrific defender and good on the boards.

If you look at advanced stats, Jackson contributed 7.8 WS to Woolridge's 5.8.

Jackson, offensive WS: 2.1, defensive WS: 5.7
Woolridge, offensive WS: 3.5, defensive WS: 2.3

Jackson was very good offensively but an amazing defender.

Uhtoff is going to end up being a top ten pick in NBA this year, Hawks get to Elite 8 or better.

JU will also have a very good NBA career

I don't see that but, hes looking like a pretty solid first rounder at this point.

The guy announcing the Rutgers game cracked me up when he said, "if I was a GM I would take a hard look at Jarrod with a second round pick."

With evaluation skills like that its safe to say he will never be an nba gm.

I'd be shocked if he was a lottery pick. There are a lot of big Euros coming over next year like Dragan Bender. You'll have players like Simmons and Hield coming out too.

I think Uthoff is probably somewhere in the 20-30 range.

This might be a good way for the younger posters to appreciate how good Ronnie Lester really was. As good as Uthoff is, Lester was far superior and meant way to more to his team than Jarrod (and that is not intended to be a slight to Jarrod, yea - that's how good Ronnie was).

Think about it, the last team to get to the Final Four was Ronnie with a hobbled knee + a very good supporting cast consisting of multiple players. There is a reason Magic called him the best he ever played against in college - maybe at any level (can't quite remember the quote).

Not even close. Haluska was even a better player than Pierce. Advanced stats show that.

The best athlete I've ever seen play at Iowa is Ricky Davis. Reggie Evans should get more props dude avg a double double for 2 years.. Utoff is def up there his offense and defense is up there. Marble, Lester, Bowen and woolridge. Utoff is up there

John Johnson. Best BB player in Iowa history.

I'm not so sure. He's definitely one of the best if not the best scorer in Iowa history but Lester just seemed like a guy that could carry an entire team on his shoulders and control the flow of the game. That final 4 team was 15-1 in games he played and only 8-9 in games he missed. Iowa might have even won a title if he stayed healthy.

Ronnie. JJ was awesome and a case can be made for him as our #1 offensive player. I still would take Ronnie especially in today's guard driven game.

JU does things that no former Hawkeye has done or could do. He'll go down as one of the all time greats to wear our uniform. Enjoy every moment as players of his talent don't come along very often.

It might be cliché but Uthoff just looks like Nowitzki offensively the way he can hit that fade away 15-20 footer. He can also break a player down in the paint the way Dirk can.

His shooting ability...with height makes him special...plus, not every player can take a bb with the opposite hand and flush it under duress. "Watch out...you are gonna get hurt, bro!"

Lower first round pick would be outstanding...still lots of the season left, however.

Yeah, Ronnie's a big number 1 and a pretty big drop to number 2. Roy Lane Marble number 2 and pretty big drop to number 3 where a lot of guys are in the mix. At this point Ute is in that conversation.

JJ was the 7th overall pick, averaged 27.9 points his senior year and led the team in rebounding both years he played. This was before the 3 point shot and JJ had range.

I love all former Hawks and Roy was a special athlete. He wasn't the basketball player JJ was.

Are we talking pro potential or most valuable to our program during college play? There's a big difference. Andrew Woolridge was an unbelievable college player and did some awfully good things at Iowa. He was never thought of as having great pro potential. Great college player.
I think uthoff is a little of both. His height and length fit the nba game and he can play the 3 at the next level with his range. i think his game translates really well to the next level. He's also a really good college player but I would not put him in Andre or Ronnie Lester or John Johnson's level. He still has a lot of season to change that though and I definitely see him as an all American player and a serious candidate for national player of the year if we win the conference.
I'm of the opinion that the Iowa State was the best thing that happened to us. Guys really regrouped and refocused and have been phenomenal since. Uthoff has really grown in that time too.
