So if JU is the #9 player in the conference, I'm wondering who they're figuring as 8-1?
This guy also predicts that Iowa will have 1 player in the top 25. Based on the list to far, I'm guessing the final 8 are: Trimble, Hammons, LeVert, Valentine, Ferrell, Hayes, Layman' and possibly Williams.
I'll buy Trimble, LeVert, Valentine, and Ferrell. But the season hasn't started yet.
You may be right. As I said, the season hasn't started yet. But I do think #9 is probably to low for JU in the B1G.
Woodbury has in his honorary mentions, but I think that Jok has the most potential to surprise this season.
Yes. Over 16 ppg and a 2.5:1 assist to turnover rate last season? Easily Top 10 in the B1G.
I'd take Trimble, Hammons, LeVert, Valentine, and Ferrell over Uthoff right now but I think the skies the limit for Uthoff. If he put in the time this off-season he could easily be one of the top three players in the B1G. Nobody picked White on first-team all B1G preseason last year but he ended up there. This is just something else to add to the motivational bulletin board.
Uthoff has a lot more upside than White, but Aaron's basketball IQ made him much better than his physical skills. Uthoff is definitely a potential first-team all B1G, but Iowa's success will have a lot to do with his personal awards. The picture shows just how hard it would be to guard Jared.
I wouldn't take anybody over Uthoff. He is a complete mismatch at his position.

Don't know about Hammons. He's more physically talented than Woody but I admire Woody's work ethic more. You know, in spite of all the talk about the trees down low that Purdue has accumulated, I think we might see a surprising amount of minutes that they just play Swanigan in the post without Hammons or Haas on the floor.

JU is not going to light up Wisconsin for 40 plus. There are teams that can't score 40 or 50 on Wisconsin. And I guarantee Bo will stick JU with some real tough defense because Bo has a point to make, too.

You sound like a reasonable poster.
Uthoff will be a fantastic player this year. However I do wonder what he'll be like being the primary focus of the opposing team.
What point does Bo Ryan need to make? Wisconsin went to back to back Final Fours after Uthoff left and Jarrod hasn't beaten Wisconsin as a playing member of Iowa.
I do think Uthoff will be tougher to shut down than White, at least before AW starting hitting outside shots late in his senior year. And if our shooting picks up as expected, more driving lanes will be open this year for JU than they were for White.
Don't think Ryan plans any differently for Uthoff than for other scorers. But after the game v Duke, JU has got to be an irritation he'd like to swat.

Nice player guys, but...you are expecting way to much and setting expectations way to high. Things are a little different when B10 teams start focusing on you as a team's #1 option. Uthoff has never gotten that type of attention, but probably will this year. The jury is out on how he'll respond.
teams work hard to take away the best player or biggest threat. Make someone else beat you. It is very hard to be the threat they are taking away and still score like crazy. I have seen too many guys who think JU with go from 12 ppg to 20 as a senior. To average 20, you have to score half your games above 20. Jarrod will not average 20. He will, however, be a threat and when doubled or jammed, he will find open guys. So, he will still contribute offensively. One thing I want to see him do better is draw fouls. Although down some last year, he is a fantastic FT shooter. I have seen him make 99 and 137 in a row and I have not watched him much. that was early high school.
The best part about Uthoff is that he is a two-way player unlike Aaron white who was an atrocious defender. At the very least Uthoff at the four spreads the floor offensively and we become a better defensive team. I haven't even mentioned that Uthoff has 10x more skill than Aaron White did. If Uthoff can get to White's level mentally then there isn't even a comparison.
Couldn't agree more buttermypancakes. No clue how white accomplished what he did given his level of skill. Mind numbing. Isn't it? I'm honestly gonna be shocked if uthoff isn't in the lottery pick discussion by conference play.
Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how Aaron got so many other coaches and media to vote him as first-team B1G, when he had such limited offensive skills and was atrocious on defense.
