I've heard all week which is the key point for this weekend's game, but I'm thinking that ole' Matty is going to be the one that stands out for us.
Watched a little of the Penn State game last weekend, and they ran straight, line of scrimmage passes to their WR at least 4 different times during one drive on MSU's defense that resulted in either at least 10 yards or 1st downs (then I stopped watching, because it's Penn State). This play has been Matt's bread and butter all year. Have a feeling he's going to have a big day Saturday!

Either him or the tight ends, depends on which ones MSU wants to try and cover (without giving up the run).

I agree using those quick throws will help against MSU attacking defense.

I also believe that Iowa will need to use some sort of mis-direction play to get the edge a few times. I realize that MSU has been using Narduzzi's scheme to prep for us. Iowa has to get creative in this game.

I also think that Iowa might need to use Jerminic to get the "deep ball" threat. If they play us man to man, use Jerminic to run deep and he is athletic enough to make a play.

I actually look Iowa to get Tevaun as well to make a play.

CJB's arm might have to win us this game, we need our WR to make plays.

Good things happen when he gets the ball. The majority of his catches go for first downs, and if he can get his hands on the ball, he will bring it in

Have to account for their blitzing, my guess is Vandeberg 1st then with the blitzes the TE's read the hot routes and we drain the clock on them with 10-15yd 3 play possessions with points on nearly all.

Defensively, stop their run - period.

With the overly-aggressive/attacking defense, you can make some BIG plays with hitting the quick slants, or mis-direction passes across the short-middle of the field. Pump fakes will also free up receivers for wide open plays vs the blitzes and single coverage, but they need to be timed perfectly. And, you need your O-line to allow the timing to work and keep passing lanes clear.

I think if Beathards 'wheels' are healthy (and he looked good vs. Nebraska), he'll be able to scramble for many 1st downs and keep MSU on its heels...

I've said the same thing. Then my jaw dropped when a player told me that Matt V is the 2nd fasted player on the team. Matt is faster than J Smith. Go figure, huh?

I would believe it, he does look quick when he runs the bubble screens.

I just hope he can get separation this weekend. MSU likes to play man defense and if we can burn them over the top that would be nice!

Wonder if they will spread it out and put Beathard in shotgun like they did against Pitt.

Impossible. White guys cannot play WR in the NFL, let alone college...

I still can't figure out how a team can amass over 400 yards and only score 16 points.

Ball control. Long time consuming drives are the best way to keep your opponents' offense off the field.

He was referring to Penn State's 55-16 blowout loss to MSU, where they had 418 yds total offense.

The answer is 4 turnovers (2 lost fumbles, 2 INTs). That is at least 20 points (2 TDs, 2 FGs) left off the board, and up ~20 points handed to the other team, or a ~40 point swing on the scoreboard.

PSU was -3 in the turnover category overall, which can be anything from an 18 pt swing (-9 on FGs PSU/+9 on FGs MSU) to a 42 pt swing (-21 on TDs PSU/+21 on TD MSU).

And while many think this white guy is the fastest guy on the Packers team, actually another white guy is faster! That's right, Janis is faster than Jordy Nelson but just does not run routes as well and thus does have the same level of trust from Rodgers
