Obviously Kris played great....I hope this was a game that get's him on track to play up to his capabilities.

I thought Joe T played really well.....I think it was one of his better games and he was a difference maker.

I thought Ulis and Perkins played pretty well......some turnovers, but defensively they were good.

I thought Fran called/coached a good game. He dealt with foul issues with his star player, foul issues with his post players assigned to guard the other teams best players, and terrible officiating.

As much as Connor gets trashed....I thought he was obviously a very solid contributor last night.

The team fought through sections of the game where they were down, not playing well, and Indiana looked like it couldn't be stopped....and came back for the win. They took control of the game late in the second half and withstood the pressure down the stretch.

All that and we get a win with our best player and leading scorer only getting about half of his normal amount of points.....Patrick, JBO, Rebraca, and others were jut not on their games......and yet we played good enough defense and rebounded much better against a good rebounding team.

That was a good and much needed win! GO HAWKS!

There was a sequence toward the end of the game where Ahron drove to the bucket and put up a shot with contact (no foul called), rebounded the miss, shot again (again, with contact but no foul called), got the rebound from that miss and shot again, with finally a foul called. He was a monster on that series but I think it took whatever he had in the tank out. He seemed gassed after that.

Yes, lots of tenacity on that sequence. It looked like he was trying to pad his stats ala Ricky Davis!

I live about an hour away and drove over to watch our “most hated rival” beat our actual hated rival.

Props to your fan base last night. I expected bottles to start flying as that was some of the worst officiating I’ve ever seen. I honestly thought the game was fixed (like actually fixed, not the typical message board complaining stuff) until the goaltending call on Jackson Davis.

Few comments from a neutral observer.

- Carver Hawkeye is a great arena to watch a game. Loved the atmosphere but was surprised the arena was as empty as it was. Getting out of the Kinnick parking lot was dreadful!

- The few IU fans in attendance were absolutely nauseating. There was a long haired, backwards hat bro, in candy cane pants just squealing behind me all night. Every play. It was exhausting and cheers to the Iowa crowd for mostly ignoring him. He honestly looked to be in tears with about 3 minutes to go. Then he disappeared for the night.

- I was in a Purdue jacket and stayed quiet all night and took shit from a few IU dolts at halftime. After the game a candy cane pants wearing adult said something to the effect of “Purdont sucks”. I just smiled and said IU looked good and will be a tough out in the NIT.

- You all did a great job of helping on TJD in the second half...no thanks to the refs. I don’t get why it is so hard to force Jackson Davis to turn over his left shoulder. It seems like all teams struggle with this. He and Race do an incredible job of establishing great position immediately in their possessions but I don’t get why so many big men defend behind his left shoulder. Makes it so easy for him to spin right and get easy looks with his left hand.

- Your press and occasional zone was perfectly timed and executed. I don’t know why Woodson was using Race to break the press but the IU turnovers were early and often. It was glorious.

- Murray and Murray need to play more together. They appear to play much longer than 6’ 8”. Certainly the two together will present many challenges to teams around the country. They were awesome.

- All in all, great night of basketball and enjoyed the evening. See you all in two weeks!

One of the things that I didn't mention.....Tony and AU play so hard and they are so scrappy....I think that like most fans, I LOVE seeing that kind of effort.
I think Joe, Tony and Ulis play the game on both ends about as hard as anyone you'll ever see. They'll make some mistakes as a result but watching players like Joe throw their bodies around like that diving for loose balls is really fun to watch.

Thanks I was really bashing the refs last night which I normally don't but yes they were that bad

The curly haired guy, who I was not familiar with, seemed intent on making sure the Hoosiers left with a win.

The tall bald guy was looking right down at Parker Stewart’s toe, which was clearly on the baseline, and swallowed his whistle after Stewart shuffled his feet and clearly was standing out of bounds after a rebound around the 4:30 mark. Happened right in front of me and couldn’t believe he didn’t blow his whistle. The yellow line is out of bounds, right? Not the black paint?

That sequence, which was about the fifth questionable (no) call in 5 minutes, led to the technical a minute later. Just terrible.

Fran left Ulis in too long, and you could see it effect his play. He needs to learn to trust Joe, he certainly deserves it at this point.

I think he does, he just hates to pull a player when he's on a roll. Ahron was playing really well, putting all his effort out. He still needs to learn when to get himself out. I think that's what Kris did very well last night.

Interesting that a relatively neutral third party comes on this site and supports the contention that the officiating truly sucked in a lopsided manner in favor of the visiting team.

perhaps we should discuss Connor’s Twitter activity and Frans history of erupting and calling the officials cheaters?

it’s going to be the McCaffery gift that keeps on giving. As it should. You don’t get to call out the refs publicly and expect zero blowback.

I’m not naive I understand what you’re saying but it’s also a bad idea to just keep quiet about bad officiating.( Ie. no goal tending when TJD grabs the rim as your shot is on the rim). Last game wasn’t officiated well and Hawks rarely benefited . That’s the game I get it, play through it but c’mon man getting mad and saying nothing encourages it to continue

You don’t? Izzo has made a pretty good living by doing it. Works them hard during the games and bitches afterwards if he doesn’t think it went his way. Yet he stays in the refs good graces…hmmm interesting!
I get what you’re saying, but I can’t blame Fran or Connor for letting the refs know they’re doing a garbage job. The foul called on pmac on davisons 3 was beyond awful! And a pretty pivotal call, glad Connor called the refs out on it. And I think he probably partially does it because he knows Fran gets a fine for publicly speaking on it. And what happened against Indi, Woodsen bitching to the refs about connor from 5 ft away while pointing directly at him, glad he took offense to it! Especially after the raping we took from the refs that half.

Izzo is way worse than any coach in college…..watch a Mich. St. game and he’s on tv more than any coach ever.

Agree with almost all said throughout a good thread that stayed mostly on point. Very gutsy win, despite some lousy officiating on our home floor, and Keegan sitting for about 15 min more than usual. I wish our interior play was as intense as the play of our three younger guards. JoeT, Ulis, and Perkins leave it all on the floor. I really like what our backcourt looks like for the next few years. I hope this game opens the flood gates for Kris to join Keegan in being a force to deal with. We actually slightly outrebounded IU, but defensive rebounding still needs to be a priority for the Hawks to keep winning.

I actually thought Ulis looked out of sync all night. He struggled repeatedly against pressure, and had his pocket picked a couple of times. The effort was there, but I thought over all that was as bad as I've seen him play this year...Also Frans two fouls and sit down rule is problematic. He needs to trust his stars to play through at least in short spurts. If Kris had not turned into a Keegan clone literally we'd have been boat raced before halftime....

The guards are who will make this team's defense succeed. Iowa doesn't have a rim protector, even though it has a lot of length. But if on of the bigs like Cockburn or Dickinson gets the ball down low, the guards need to double on the back side to force them to give it up or turn it over. They don't like to pass back out so Iowa can take advantage of that.

And the court.
Agree. Fran got T'd up for reacting about 20% of what Izzo would have to to get T'd up. Its blatantly obvious that the officials have Fran on a VERY short leash, some of which he's earned unfortunately. And frankly while I love Cmac's fire and passion, some of his antics aren't helping either. Its not like the zebras don't know who's son he is... :(

I get where you’re coming from on the star players being able to play through foul trouble…but the horrific officiating takes that out of the players hands on some occasions…and I think this is one of the issues (2fouls=sit) that can work either way…and Fran has chosen to go with the sit side of it. In this game it worked well.

I happen to think there’s an art to “working the officials” and Izzo has perfected it. He is very good about smiling and looking kind of cheeky while questioning the calls and making his point, sometimes with a slight back pat or something you’re probably not even allowed to do (touching officials)… Fran, on the other hand, looks angry and volatile when he thinks his team has been wronged. Sometimes Izzo does that but his reputation is light years better than Fran for success, etc.

If people understand what I’m trying to convey they usually agree, but we have fans here that are incapable of taking off their black and gold lenses.

I agree with this…..the look on Fran’s face reminds me of Bobby Knights intimidation of refs (without the success that Knight had)…and I think you’re right on the money that Izzo is able to do it in a way that he’s effective..
