Villanova - Maimi

7 ft center missed an unguarded 1 foot lay in on the first play of the 2nd half.

some of our fans need to be less critical of our players.

Watching Villanova without the intensity of our Hawks playing against and you can see what a great team they are. Solid team all around.

Terrific defense and terrific outside shooting. They will give KU or Maryland all they can handle.

This is after a week of Miami being able to practice after watching film from our game. Miami is getting killed. So did we and no way we had a chance but we had a day of rest in between games. How much could we prepare?

Turns out we aren't as bad as people thought for losing

It sure would of been nice to have guards that could shoot huh

Or even a dominate post player?? I watched some of the NIT the past couple of nights and there were some guys who were 6-7 to 6-9 who would catch it on the block and make nice moves and get to the basket. I couldn't believe it and then I got thinking about Iowa. Did we ever post up Woody? Did we ever put him on the block and got him the ball? I seriously don't remember seeing it at all (even vs temple we had the height advantage).

Maybe I am just thinking too much about the NOVA game, but I do not ever remember us getting the ball in the low block and woody making a move?

Makes you wonder what would've happened if we got put where Wisconsin is instead.

Probably would've choked against Pitt. But still.

Well, I think Nova had a week to prepare for Miami, too. I know the Iowa drubbing was a large part Nova just being on a freakin' roll and people cannot seem to accept that, but Iowa wouldn't have won anyway, IMHO. I picked Nova to win it all...they are #1 caliber when they're on and they're on right now.

Jay Wright just said they've been playing very well of late, which I'd agree. They look like the January Hawks.

Villanova also had only 1 day. Who has more opportunity to advance scout the 2nd round? A 7-seed or a 2-seed. There's a pretty solid chance the 2 has to look ahead to the 7 -OR- the 10. Less than a 5% chance the 7 had to worry about the 15-seed.

It's pretty hard to think of any scenario where we could have won more than one game in the tournament as bad as we were playing at the end of the year, especially as a 7 seed. I agree we likely would have lost to Pitt. If not, for sure to Xavier. Maybe if we we were a 7 seed we could have beat Syracuse in that region and then MTSU but no way they'd put us in that region as a 7 with MSU a 2. So no scenario I guess. Oh well. Really doesn't matter.

I think if Iowa was playing the way they did the 1st half of the season they might of gave Nova a run for their money.

January Hawkeyes vs Villanova right now????

I still got NOVA by 5 because of their guards. They are freaking good! WOW!

The point isn't whether nova had a week to prepare for Miami or whether Iowa would have done Breyer with a week to prepare. We wouldn't have done any better. The point is Miami saw nova, had film for a week, and still landed exactly where we are after losing in much the same fashion.

Good for Nova. Nothing worse than seeing a team that just took yours to the woodshed fall on their face in the next game. Nova is for real and playing as well or better than any team right now.

Agree! I really think Temple is the only 10 seed Iowa could have beat.

Seriously? Woody has T-rex arms and even smaller hands apparently and can't jump a lick. The guy couldn't consistently handle the ball in the paint in a crowd when they tried to get it to him, and then the odds get even worse if he has to dribble and make a move. That doesn't make him Satan, that's who he is. I don't now nor ever did "hate" him for it, but reality is reality. It's darn difficult to turn Mr. Ed into Secretariat.

I get it that people want the inside out game, but you have to have an effective post player that can do something with the ball, or it's pretty much all for naught. Shoot, pass or drive. Woody typically only wanted to do one of those things, and we all know which one it was, so did the other team.

Woody played hard ALL THE TIME (so did Mike G.), improved his free throw shooting, and when he was out our rebounding definitely suffered (gives me huge concerns for next year). He wasn't remotely close to a rim protector, and was also largely non-existent in 4 years on the offensive end in the paint, nobody feared him in that regard. That HAS to change moving forward for the Hawks to fare better. Glad he came to Iowa, represented the school well and had some great games every now and again. Probably a great human being along with Mike, Anthony and Jarrod. And now it's time to see what happens with this class gone.......................
