Just watching some of their game. They are absolutely smothering on defense. I know it's Grambling State but they just held them to nine points in the first half. Very impressive

I love my Hawkeyes, and I do, but we are going to be thrashed by Virginia. 25 points or more and I drink the Kool-Ade on a daily basis. We will get better because of it.

It's likely the young Hawks will be taught a lesson the hard way.
Hopefully they learn from it and use that to improve as the season progresses.

If the U.S. Hockey team could be the U.S.S.R. In 1980. If just a little water, granted in a frozen state and aided by millions of tons of frozen water adding to it's mass, could strike the unsinkable Titanic and send it to the bottom of the ocean. If Twinkies can live to be 2,000 years old and still be edible!

Well than Virginia can take us lightly, we can get hot, and this could be a good game after all. So I'll be rooting for the Hawkeyes with a glass of Ice Water and a Twinkie, and shouting for someone to tend the goal!

Basketball season is great.

I am confident that the Hawks will be the first team to break 40 against the Cavs. This will be grinder if the Hawks can hang on the boards and defend the basket. Some pretty big ifs.

This is where lack of a true PG will expose us. I think we'll break 40 pts though. If we don't break the 40 pt mark, I'll be extremely disappointed.

I gotta say, ^^^^^, it'll be good to get that settled one way or the other. I'm betting we do alright.

This is going to be the toughest battle in the non-conf. We are going to have to shoot lights out and find the mis-matches every time.

ISU got smoked by them in the tourney last year, just an extremely impressive defensive team. Couldn't have been more impressed with them, they actually remind me a lot of what Self does at Kansas, just demoralizing levels of defense.

Tony Bennett should have been targeted as the Iowa coach a long time ago and made money no object.

Too late now.

Looking forward to this game. We (UVA) haven't played anyone with a pulse yet (except maybe Yale) so this should be a great challenge for our team. Jok is an incredibly talented player and will be a matchup nightmare. We kicked our best offensive post player off the team so inside scoring will be a challenge for us. If we win, it'll be because of excellent guard play and suffocating defense. Good luck!

We gave up 51 to UNCG on the road in our season opener. I have no doubt Iowa will score the most points against us so far this season. I just hope it's less than what we score against you lol

Kick one more key player off & we will be friends. ;) I root for the Virginia's anytime you go against the others (ie, N Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville. etc). As you can read...not much hope for us..so you don't need a Good Luck. :D

I still remember the ass beating you guys gave us in the NIT a few years back. Iowa is always tough and physical and will be a tough game. I'm not falling for your lack of hope lol.

I think a good barometer is mid 50s. Given tempo that they play with, our opportunities will be limited, so while I would normally shoot for 60, I think we'll have 4-5 fewer possessions than what we would normally expect. If we can get over 55, I'll feel really good about our offense the rest of the way. Defensively, I have a feeling we are going to be a bit deflated after this. I'm thinking we'll end up giving up a lot of uncontested layups, but it should give us a lot of tape to learn from.

Whoever wins the fast break points off turnovers stat, and made FT's stat should have a huge advantage in this one. Normal buckets in the half court may be pretty limited.

Can Iowa keep turnovers down in the half court, and make UVA's guards beat them in the opposite half court?

Can Iowa generate turnovers with their 1/2 court zone press?

Can Iowa minimize the number of made buckets at the rim that they gave Seton Hall?

I think Iowa's length and the lack of an interior post scorer for Virginia will help them, but our youth will hurt us.

I expect Fran to simplify things offensively for some of the younger guys and to shorten his rotation in this one.

Having a tough time figuring this game. Logic tells me that we should lose by double digits in a low scoring game, but these young Hawkeyes seem to have a lot of (misplaced?) confidence and I doubt they will be intimidated. Just hoping we can hit the boards hard and keep the turnovers to a manageable level. Looking forward to the contest.

I hoping for little victories where we can control them. Low TOs, smart shot selection, some control of tempo, make the freebies and hustle your ass off. PS, box out and rebound and 50/50 balls.

In my view this is probably the worst matchup in the country for this Iowa team at this stage. UVA is talented and very VERY fundamentally sound. Maybe the Hawks will shock the world and win, but boy it could be a big time learning experience. Either way playing these guys will do nothing but benefit Iowa.

Maybe we will at least learn something about defending from this game. Either way it will probably be ugly.

Gotta love Jok's confidence and recognition that he's the leader of this team. Concerning VA's "Pack Line Defence", something he says MSU plays as well:
"I think we're going to be ready for it and I think we've got a great chance to win."

He also recognizes that D is key for this team's success and he's got to be the leader: "Our main thing to be successful this year is defense, and it's got to start with me."

The Hawkeyes beat them at their place a few years ago. The will want revenge.

Pete needs to walk the walk on defense. With the athletes on this team, there is no reason why Iowa cannot develop into a good defensive team.

Expect Iowa to lose big.
But, they can definitely take lessons from this.

Well, I feel like a fool. Gotta be more patient I guess while the new guys put things together.
