Starting to post perp walks and mugshots of kids who are arrested.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida sheriff fed up with a spate of false school shooting threats is taking a new tactic to try get through to students and their parents: he's posting the mugshot of any offender on social media.
Law enforcement officials in Florida and across the country have seen a wave of school shooting hoaxes recently, including in the wake of the deadly attack at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., which killed two students and two teachers.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood on Florida's Atlantic Coast said he's tired of the hoaxes targeting students, disrupting schools and sapping law enforcement resources. In social media posts Monday, Chitwood warned parents that if their kids are arrested for making these threats, he'll make sure the public knows.
“Since parents, you don’t want to raise your kids, I’m going to start raising them," Chitwood said. "Every time we make an arrest, your kid’s photo is going to be put out there. And if I can do it, I’m going to perp walk your kid so that everybody can see what your kid’s up to.”
Chitwood made the announcement in a video highlighting the arrest of an 11-year-boy who was taken into custody for allegedly threatening to carry out a school shooting at Creekside or Silver Sands Middle School in Volusia County. Chitwood posted the boy's full name and mugshot to his Facebook page.
In the video, which had more than 270,000 views on Facebook as of Monday afternoon, the camera pans across a conference table covered in airsoft guns, pistols, fake ammunition, knives and swords that law enforcement officers claim the boy was “showing off" to other students.

I have zero issues with the plan.

That said, I don’t understand why these LEOs insist on sounding like dickheads in the language they use.

“If YOU aren’t going to raise your kids; I guess I have to!” Harrumph, harrumph.

Give me a break.

Your job is to be the adult in the room. Act like it.

Mixed emotions on this. A lot of kids deserve public humiliation and so do some parents. But not all situations are the same and i am not certain this is the best plan of action for all kids/parents/cases

I see your point but there has probably been a few too many Little Braxingtynns pulling this crap for entertainment and the proverbial slap on the wrist isn’t working.

I am a pretty liberal guy, but I totally support this. My daughter's school had to close last week due to a bomb threat. I went and picked her up from the staging area. I think we all, as parents, knew it was a hoax as we waited for our kids, but seeing the faces of the kids, a lot of whom had been crying and clearly very scared, they clearly did not. That is not OK. There need to be increased punishments for these types of things. It is not harmless fun. I will say, before last week I probably would have argued against this sheriff, but seeing how scared those kids were really changed my mind.

Also, it was a hoax, no bomb was found and no one was ever in any danger, just as most of the parents assumed... but the kids just don't understand that and a lot of them are still scared to go back to school.

I largely disagree with the public release of pre-adjudication booking photos. Those photos are forever in the day of the internet and live on well past a dismissal or not guilty verdict. Lasting implications. Same goes for photos/videos of intentional perp walks.

As to torbee's point, the brash comments seem to mostly come from elected sheriffs who think they can get away with it because of the electorate. These are often the same type of guys parading around in their uniform in a poltical ad for another politician during campaign season. We all see that every two years in Iowa, completely indifferent to the fact that they're alienating half their constituents and impacting public trust along the way.

I’m thinking the parents of these little angels are complete POS’s because I assure you the kid wouldn’t be doing this in the first place if the parents were doing a credible job to begin with.

There was a 13 year old boy arrested yesterday in our area for sending pics of guns to two girls asking them which one they wanted him to use when he shot them.
