Heaven, Iowa
When you look at this year, we ended up 4 games out of 1st place, but when you look at these 5 losses, it's easy to think about what could have been:

* at Minny (thanks, refs!)
* at Illinois
* home to Illinois
* at Nebby
* home to Maryland

Three years from now will be Fran's 10th year; hard to believe. But I think in year 8, 9, or 10, there will be a B1G Championship, finally, won.

What do you think?

No.

Too many things happen that work against us over the course of a season for us to win the title, even in the Big Ten now, let alone a national title.

We could have Calipari as our coach. It wouldn't matter. Just sayin.

Iowa looks to have a good trajectory, but not enough for a conference title.
Fran would need to somehow get at least a couple of superstars, guys that are sure fire NBA first rounders, to head the classes that he's bringing in for that to happen. Not to mention avoiding injuries, academic casualties, etc.
I think the Hawks are going to be good enough to make the NCAA tourney at least 2 out of the next 3 years. Maybe get into the top 3 in the conference. Winning a B1G regular season title will remain elusive.

With Connor probably not coming on this season, I now say 2 probably 3 years from this past season is when it's possible. JBO, Cook, Pemsyl and Kriener will be juniors or seniors and the new kids will be on board. Very possible in the not too distant future.

Should have won it two years ago. I believe it is realistically in our near future.
For sure, we should have! Had the title in their grasp with just a few games to go in conf play, and couldn't finish. Last year, although they were young, this group showed a tougher mindset. If that plays out, in the next couple of years, we have a shot. The team with the most talent doesn't always win on any given day. Maryland as example seems to have a solid edge on talent over Iowa, but we've spanked them two of the last three games I believe.

i think in a couple years, especially if we still have Cook, we have a great shot at making a run

Why can Wisconsin win Big titles but Iowa can't? Exactly. So yes, Iowa can...and I believe will...win at least one Big Ten title in the next three years...in men's basketball. ;)

I believe it's a legitimate possibility.... if this core group shows steady improvement I think we're a serious contender in the next 3 years.

Regular season conference titles are tough to predict. For Iowa to win, it all has to come together. The conference season is a grind and to avoid an off night vs a bottom tier team isnt easy. Once you are on top the rest of the conference perks up a little when you roll into town.

I think there is a realistic chance of winning a conference title. I wouldn't bet on it but I think they will be in contention for top 1/3 of the conference each of the next 3 years.... then if things break right ya never know.

The thing I like is Iowa should be able to put 5 scorers on the court at one time most of the time. This should help the in winning close games at the end. Whereas two years ago Clemons, Gesell, and Woodbury weren't great scoring options coming down the stretch. Last years freshman heavy team will bring experience each of the next 3 so youth won't be a good excuse. Of course defense and FT shooting are going to have to get a lot better... and avoid injuries at positions where there isn't much depth (pg comes to mind).

I voted yes. Don't think we have any chance next year but in the junior year for JBo, Pemsl, Cook, and Moss which should be Wagner and Baer as seniors IIRC, look out. As good of a chance as anybody.

This. Definitely capable, but mathematically unlikely

the 5 teams we play twice and the 8 teams we play once could have a major impact, too; but this freshman led team has proven they can win on the road and i would expect the same over the next 3 years

Not going to predict. My view has always been that the key is to repetitively floor talent which can challenge for a title, and eventually you get one.

And compare our program now, to the last 35+ years and it is easy to see that we've finally achieved the on floor coaching, player development, and recruiting, that puts us at the level to challenge for titles. Now, we just wait for that year when it all comes together. One year, three years, five? I don't know. It now depends on the rest of the league as much as us.

A dang better situation than we've had in almost ALL of those 35+ years.
