I absolutely believe that KF belongs in the college football Hall of Fame if he indeed finishes with a .600 winning percentage. I just worry that he’s going to fall short of that milestone. If Iowa wins out the season and wins their bowl game, then KF will have his .600 winning percentage and the all-time Big Ten wins record. His walking away at that point I think would be ideal for everyone.

To get to & stay at 60%:

4-1 (.800): needed to finish 2024 (puts him at 60.11%)
8-5 (.615): record then needed in 2025
.........................................
12-6 (.667) Total

So, if KF is around next season & he goes 12-6 through 2025...

Kirk's record would be:

......12-21 (36.4%):.............3 years at Maine....(1990-92)
213
-128 (62.5%):..........27 years at Iowa........(1999-2025)
..................................................................
225-149 (60.16%) Overall Record

Update after Iowa's 42-10 win on Nov 2, 2024 vs Wisconsin:

You can change your vote, if needed.

As we have been discussing in this thread since September 2023, one of the stipulations for the College Football Hall of Fame is you have to have won 60% of your games.

Assuming Kirk gets to 60% (which he currently is just below) and stays there, what say you?

Kirk has been the head coach in 357 games. He's won 59.94% of those games.

By season's end Kirk will be up to 361 games (3 reg season games + 1 bowl game are left).

To get to 60.00% by the end of the 2024 season, Kirk will have to finish at 3-1 to get to 217-144 (60.11%). Going 5-0 would be even better, of course.

Kirk's current record:

.......12-21 (36.4%):.............3 years at Maine.........(1990-92)
202
-122 (62.3%):.........26th season at Iowa (1999-present)
..................................................................
214-143 (59.94%) Overall Record

When Kirk hit win #200 he became the 24th Division I coach to reach that milestone.

Still an Iowa fan, still voting yes.

Get out and vote Tuesday, folks. Otherwise, if only a few thousand people vote, i am pretty sure the electoral college can just insert Ryan Seacrest as President. At least, that's what I heard on Tik Tok.

I sometimes wonder if the world was a better place before the internet, "smart" phones, and social media

I like having a smartphone.

But, i don't use it much in my work.

I think i am glad I don't see it as an extension of my hand. Of course, I am typing this thought on a smartphone.

I am probably 60/40, in favor of internet/smartphones. Could easily live without Facebook, X, Snapchat, instagram.

Hayden wouldn't have like social media, imo ;)

@danny14 , see the previous post; Kirk is currently at a 59.78% winning percentage; ideally, he needs to finish the season at 3-0. And then he needs next season to pass Woody Hayes.

Boy, this is tough. I actually think that Iowa finishing 2-0 and KF being TIED with Woody with 205 wins as a Big Ten coach, and then KF gracefully retiring on a rather high note, coming off a 9-win season and a career win % of >.600, would be the very best thing for everyone. The problem is that I don't want to wait until January to start looking for his replacement. In fact, if he did suddenly decide to retire after the bowl game, it would probably be a situation where BG would give SW the interim tag for a season, and I'm not sure I like that idea.

If KF decides to return in '25 to pass Woody, he certainly would accomplish that, but there's almost a zero chance that he'd win enough games to maintain the .600 win %. 2025 is just going to be a bit of a down season for Iowa, and going 8-5 would actually be a shocker to me.

Personally, I would rather have Tim Lester as the next head coach.

I wonder, however, if there is a secret transition plan in place where Seth Wallace is essentially the HC in waiting (Dochterman recently said he thinks KF hangs it up after next season).

I realize that normally the job has to be posted but BG got around that (I forget how) when she announced Jan Jensen as Lisa Bluder's replacement.
