Wadley is not high stepping to gloat. He is decelerating. He likely has been doing it since he was a kid and he's probably scored so many breakaway TDs throughout his life that it is an ingrained habit.

I think last night he did it to avoid tackles
Yes.

Let's face it vs. North Texas he surely knew he was going to score. But last night he had a very good reason--keeps defenders from swiping at the feet from behind. Even though I generally do not like showboating, I am not a fan of the rule for this reason.

I think he is just used to doing it, after he did it a little last night i think he said oh crap. He was very kind in giving the ref the ball lol
This. And it goes to show how stupid it is for the NCAA to not allow an athlete to be an athlete.

One man's showboating is another man's enthusiasm for his team/sport.

In the North Carolina/ Florida Sate game a North Carolina player upon scoring, did a flip into the end zone from the one yard line which was clearly taunting or showboating, no penalty or unsportsmanlike call was made of any kind. Should have been some call made as this was clearly far and above what Wadley did. Should be some type of uniformity in calls imho.

I don't think he thought about it. When asked in an interview last week, what he would do the next time, he said,"I'm going to go over and hand the ball to the ref", which is what he did. There was a defender who dove at him around the 4 yard line, so this one was certainly defendable anyway.

The penalty was called. You could hear the ref speaking in the background and prior to that the announcers said he's surely earned the penalty but at least he stuck the landing

Even if NCAA doesn't like show boating, it is ridiculous to make it a spot foul. Should be tacked on after end of play completion. The penalty is way out of line to the violation---especially in Wadley's rather mild high stride.

They enforced the penalty on the kickoff, but the guy clearly started his flip from before the goal line. It should have been 1st and 10 at the 16, no touchdown. That is, if the rule is to be enforced equally, of course.
