Was Jan 6 a "insurrection".

Was Jan 6 a "insurrection" ?

  • Yes

  • No

Results are only viewable after voting.
Why is this an anonymous poll? I want to see how many times Ryne votes and to mock the people who vote “no” by name.
Solid point.

I think on this subject an anonymous poll will get a more accurate read on where the board stands. Less virtue signaling. :)

Just subtract a few no votes from the total 😆

Nah, because Ryne can use every handle to tilt the vote without fear of giving himself away. Always always always make people stand behind their vote.

18 U.S. Code § 2383 - Rebellion or insurrection

prev | next
Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

One grand jury instruction on criminal insurrection, for instance, approved by a federal circuit court in Illinois in 1894,

Insurrection is a rising against civil or political authority,-- the open and active opposition of a number of persons to the execution of law in a city or state. … It is not necessary that there should be bloodshed; it is not necessary that its dimensions should be so portentous as to insure probable success, to constitute an insurrection. It is necessary, however, that the rising should be in opposition to the execution of the laws of the United States, and should be so formidable as for the time being to defy the authority of the United States.

I must be the only one that doesn't give a shit what it's called.

I view it just like the million other riots that have happened in the last few years.

I've moved on from it just like the others.

Why are people still not talking about other riots?

Remember CHAZ?

I missed when they attacked our national capitol and tried to take over the government. When was that?

I can't tell if you're being funny or genuinely unsure what makes 1/6 unique compared to all the others. Assuming your ignorance is authentic, there's several things that make it different than the
"millions" of others and worth talking about, but here's just two:

- It disrupted the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in the country's history, it was designed to steal a fair election. Elections, democracy, those are important to many Americans. The highest leaders and organizers knew it was all bullshit. Short and sweet: Truly unprecedented and national.

- One of the instigators was the current president. That should seem crazy and answer your question right there. Even crazier, he's the current front runner for a major party's presidential nomination. The election will occur in ten months. Short and sweet: Timely and Relevant.

This is dumb even by your historically low standards.

There is a reason the words "riot" and "insurrection" have two different definitions.

Take 2 minutes to read a dictionary and you will understand why the distinction matters (as if you don't actually really know and aren't just playing dumb because politics  ).

Also, congressmen were involved as well as the wife of a Supreme Court justice.

So CHAZ was also an insurrection then right?

Tim Pool?
Seriously?

Tim Pool is great. I shared that for the fed comic though not Tim pool, though Ray Epps is clearly a federal asset of some kind.

Definitely. However, it was a municipal matter not an attempt to disrupt the national presidential transfer of power and it wasn't lead - in part - by at the time current president and now leading presidential candidate.

Just also going to chime in with the fact that they had a ****ing gallows outside of the capitol because they wanted to hang the sitting Vice President of the United States.

I would agree as well.

Look, I don't have a dog in this fight. It's the first time I've ever commented on 1/6 I believe.

I've put it in the past.

Not sure how the country can move on fighting over these things. People just get angry and call the other side names. Just look how this thread has gone.

It will be better when Trump dies.

I can agree with this. But it's also okay to admit to people that you actually didn't understand the severity of something that is being discussed. It's nice that you "put it in the past" but in reality, this is the very next election since it happened, and the orchestrator of it is going to be the Republicans nominee again. Therefore it's still VERY relevant to most people.

Maybe, instead of moving on, putting it in the past, yet still posting about it, you could bother to become just casually informed about the matter. Maybe just read a story or two, get the basic understanding of what occurred, what the issues are, why people are upset, etc.

Then you might have a better understanding of why a lot of people upset, instead of just shake your head.
