Was the LOS mismarked at end of 1st qtr?

I haven't seen this talked about yet, but at the end of the 1st qtr CJB had a nice run to the Minny 25, there was a holding penalty on Minny on that play (which we declined, you can see it on the TV replay), and then, when the 2nd qtr starts, we're on the Minny 15.

In Kinnick, me and the people around me were all going: how did we gain that 10 yards? I expected someone from Minny to point it out to an official, but then again I also wondered if I'd maybe missed something, but watching the replay this am on BTN2Go, it's there for all to see: we end the 1st qtr on the Minny 25, and start the 2nd qtr on the Minny 15.

Anyone else notice this and wonder about it?

Not doubting you, but I didn't notice it. I did notice Minny get a spot on the 2 when he stepped out at the 3 1/2 yd.

My group heard the ref announce mm but didn't understand why that penalty would be tacked on.

I kind of assumed the hold was tacked-on, since it was a 10 yard gain in LOS, but I, too, don't really understand why a defensive hold is added onto the full gain of a run play. But since no one from Minny argued about it, maybe it was done on purpose. Seemed confusing at the time, though.

I wondered the same thing. Can't remember if it was the play or not but right before the ref announced the penalty he looked to the Iowa sideline and asked if they wanted to decline. I remember it being a gain to the 25 then came back from commercial break it was on the 15.

For the life of me, I can't think of a 10 yard penalty on the defense that would be added to the END of a gain (there are 15 yard ones, like PF fouls, but not 10 yard ones). Honestly, I think we got away with one here. Maybe Minny got confused and thought the added 10 was the penalty, and lost track of where the LOS was, and we of course aren't going to say anything, and the refs just plain marked the ball in the wrong place.

But the more I watch the replay and think about it, I can't come up with a good reason other than the refs misplacing the ball.

The refs didn't misplace the ball, they applied the penalty late. I don't know if the penalty application was an error, but that is what happened.

The ref initially announced the penalty, and said Iowa declined. Then the quarter break happened, and they flipped the field. Then the ref announced that the penalty is tacked onto the end of the run, and walked off the 10 yards.

What was the penalty? Defensive holding I believe can be added onto the end of the run or can be applied from previous spot.

What I am "assuming here" is Iowa ran for 10yds and got the first down. Well KF decided to accept the penalty and the hold must of taken place at the 25yd line and they marked off 10 from there. IDK if that's correct or not, but I am assuming.
