Watching Animal House

Animal House is loaded with laughs and makes you realize
how much fun you can have in college. John Vernon as
Dean Wormer of Faber College was excellent casting. It is
still one of the best comedies on college life.

Bottom Line: One of my favorite pranks in college was when
I helped hang our college basketball coach in effigy on a tree
outside the campus library.

The entire dance club scene couldn’t be made and sometimes you wonder how it can still be shown but it is hysterical,
The entire movie is just vignettes of things we see as crimes today, from the horse to underage teen girls, etc
I still laugh though.

I was going to mention that, specifically when Pinto asks his date what she was majoring in. She replies, "Primitive cultures" and the camera pans to the act on-stage. Wow, lol.

It's one of the most quotable movies of our time.
I think it’s because there is a huge segment of the population, baby boomers and Gen X, who have seen Animal House multiple times, and by multiple I mean a lot. Cable TV and HBO/Cinemax had a huge impact. With VHS and cable TV, you could watch movies over and over and over.

I am sure there are a few of us in our 40’s - 60’s who could damn near quote the entire movie. Stripes is another one in the highly quoted category and that’s a fact, Jack.

That applies to a whole lot of movies in that era that you never hear quoted. They had the same opportunity for popularity.

I think it was John Landis who said it's a classic because it was a classic when they made it, referring to the fact that it depicted an earlier era.

I just love it, including the soundtrack which I play occasionally.

National Lampoon brought their A game for that movie. They also had several other great parodies during the 70's, including Nixon's Watergate saga.

From the "Swearing Out" ceremony and Gerald Ford's first day in office:

“You can do what you want to us. But we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.”
Gentlemen!

CSB I was a student mentor/advisor for a freshmen class while in college and one of the prof’s first class get togethers for the youngins was to watch Animal House since none of them had seen it. This was 2010.

Really kind of amazing how life, by which I mean fraternity culture at universities, imitated art after that movie.

Closest thing I’ve seen since is when I was taking my kids on college tours and every school insisted that THEIR library was the model for the Hogwarts library in Harry Potter.
