WBB Transfer Portal Targets 2025-2026+

Let's just go get Williams from Wisky.
In the last 2 games, I thought the UW bigs were terrible at post defense. Although Iowa missed some bunnies and a couple shots were blocked, the Iowa players were able to get deep position on a regular basis.

Between Stuelke, Heiden, Mallegni and Hayes, I think they will be OK at 4 and 5.

The wild card is Guyton. Some concern that she may leave no matter what, based on her Dad. If we brought in a portal PG, her chances of leaving increase.

Concern based on nothing but posts like this perpetuating concern.

Yes, the Read and React offense is not the best fit for 3 out and 2 in. It was mainly designed primarily for 5 out, then they added 4 out and one in and that's what we mostly run now. One of the main purposes of R&R is to open up lanes for quick cuts and driving with the 5 out. Having 2 in just about kills the spacing needed to execute these backcuts or drives effectively.

I agree with everything you said, but need more clarity on what I highlighted in your response above. Guess what I'm asking is, who are you including on this list of guards?
Guyton- Okay at beating her player and getting into the paint, but often doesn't know what to do with the ball once she does. Hopefully she'll improve her decision-making with time.

McCabe- Doesn't really drive to the basket ever. She's only attempted 11 two-point field goals all season and 21 in her career.

Stremlow- Doesn't attack the basket a ton. Isn't quick for a guard so it'll be tough to improve her driving.

Levin/Johnson- We haven't seen enough of either to judge.

Deal/Houston- Haven't seen them at the college level, so I wasn't including them in the comment.

Hard to believe Guyton would want to leave given the fact that she is in line to play a key role for the next three years. Her opportunities at Iowa would be hard to beat. That, plus fan support, and probable NIL money are additional pluses. Irrational decision if she leaves. (She is already a fan favorite!)

I'll admit to being purely speculative... I thought her dad had been somewhat of a helicopter parent, and there were a couple of instances where I thought Guyton looked pretty upset about being pulled out of the game. If I am way off base, I will be very happy, as I think Guyton has the chance to be special.

Yes, but it hasn't stopped anyone from doing so.

I do think waiting for announced transfers leads to better analysis, though. After Clark's junior year everyone wanted Iowa to get a transfer 5. Problem was, the only transfer 5 better than Iowa had on roster was Lauren Betts and she didn't want to come to Iowa.

Every now and then I still see online comments saying Iowa would've won a championship last year if it had only gotten a transfer 5. I wish more people realized the portal doesn't always have upgrades, especially for elite teams.

Bing-effing-O….I found that bottom battle in the game thread all last season, along with Gabby Marshall needs to sit on the bench and Taylor McCabe needs to play more. It’s also why I have quite a bit of hostility sometimes towards “those fans”…

Iowa played about as fast and loose as they possibly could last year and I’m not sure there was a center in the nation, including Megan Guftason or Monica Cziano that was going to facilitate what we needed. I said over and over and over again last year’s team was better than the one the year before they rebounded better, They played defense better and they were more streamlined. Yes a center might have helped in that South Carolina game, but it might’ve kept us from getting there too….

In my humble opinion, the biggest majority of fans really have no clue what they’re seeing and don’t take the time to discourse with people to the point that they understand. They are all reactionary and use basic logic concepts to form their opinion.

Are we on this again? Is there new info out there or just regurgitating the old news. And no I’m not being an ass, sincerely asking

Right, what do you think some people are like that?
I don't know. I suppose it dovetails with a "hey, girl, you should smile more" mentality, but Aaliyah smiles plenty. Saw another comment that said Aaliyah only posts videos of herself, and that person ran with the idea that she had no friends. Huh?! People read this stuff and form a repeated narrative based on somebody that imagined something into existence. It's sad, but par for the course with the "truth creation" bs in the current era.

There is also some Chicken Little mentality that presumes a transfer in the program would be a catastrophe. Not seeing that problem. Iowa isn't a stepping stone these days.

Anyone that watched the podcast with her father after the Oregon loss gets a better grip.

The reality of Guyton's play on the court has been one of development. She has good moments mixed with some mistakes. Hard to know where her ceiling is after year one, but we do know she has been given lots of minutes and time to do what she can in this season after injury. ---->Looking forward to what she can do in the tournaments.

Yes, what people read into certain scenarios is literally baffling to me. I see what they say about certain incidents & think how the hell did you read “that” into existence or even, why would “that” be the first logic leap you took?!

Some of it, as you alluded to, is a fatalistic attitude…usually to temper disappointment, I suppose. But some of it is so petty and ridiculous like “smiling during a game you’re losing” means you don’t care enough….What the holy hell?!

Mostly in life, you have to have some confidence that things will ebb and flow and you’re going to ultimately come out in the end… But hell fans leap to conclusions minute by minute

There are a lot of people that just have to think negatively or worry about things that are unlikely to happen.

Well as you notice I get loads of shit in here for saying things lots of us think. Now to be fair I try to make people feel as stupid as possible…..🤪

I do love it though when someone acts like they’re just pleasantly disagreeing with the coaches decisions 😂😂😂

Most of these cats couldn’t find their ass w/both hands.

Completely agree. I look at it this way. One of the long term benefits of bringing in Lucy Olson was that Guyton saw firsthand in practice, games, and offcourt activities what is required to be a true first team all BIG guard. Mix that with substantial freshman playing time and the coaching staff will give her all the tools necessary for Guyton to take her game to that level.

Does she have that ceiling in her? We'll find out. If we bring in a transfer PG I would imagine JJ only does so if it's another first team BIG type of talent. In which case Guyton will have another excellent barometer to gauge her improvement before getting to challenge Harping for the starting PG spot in 2026. Then Harping will then be the benefactor from this competition cycle going back to this year with Olson. I don't think JJ will offer any player who doesn't buy-in to this mentality.

As a Slight Aside:
Coaches can preach 7 days a week about work. That preaching only has so much influence. We all know CC trains and practices at an elite level. CC's now established practice @iowa (that Guyton & all freshmen benefit from experiencing) and reinforced by CC when she does random practices with the team is one of those critical aspects of "culture" needed to be a consistently great programs. Couple that with JJ 1) identifying the right players & 2) step-wise improvements in recruiting? That's the recipe for becoming consistently good to consistently great. Once a program becomes consistently great for a sufficient period of time? Then it becomes a positive feedback loop in recruiting. At that point the coaches' job is to not F it up. That's a blue blood, IMO. Getting to that positive feedback loop requires luck. Good thing we already got some when CC chose Iowa.

Edit: this is not meant to downplay the standards or contributions to the players who came before CC. Obviously, that's part of it too.

Enjoyed your perspective, but Harpring? I hope yo are right, but as the old saying goes, don't count your commitments before they're hatched. :)

Don’t think will happen with Guyton here.

I could see a senior to help before bringing in someone from the same class.
