WBB Who will next year's starters be?

Think Oak's right about Tania and Whit playing together. You don't bring in the #37 player in the country to sit. It will be interesting to see how the other freshmen play against people their size.

Tania loves playing defense. She says being short puts her right at a bigger guards dribble level.
Whitney was fine on defense. She used her speed to keep in front of players. Her biggest problem came when a taller player was out on a break.
The Italy trip will be in August. The Pan-Am games start on July 8th. If Christina makes the Canadian team she will probably miss GTL like last year when she won a Silver with the Canadian Jr. National team.

I love players who arrive at college with a chip on their shoulder. You have to believe Davis will be out to prove the doubters wrong. Both Michigan schools snubbed her, did not offer. She grew-up being a big MSU fan IIRC and hoped to play there. Aaron White spoke about this factor in an interview at the end of this season and explained how it motivated him all throughout college.

Jennings didn't do all that bad on defense this year & played good position defense. Bigger guards did get the best of her taking it to the basket, but the bigs need to play help side defense better as Whitney & Tania aren't going to get any bigger. I like what Coley brings on defense, long arms & good mobility similar to Doolittle. The one that has to step up her defensive effort is Disterhoft, way to many lapses late in the season especially in the transition game. With the depth in addition to the buzz defense I'd like to see the guards pick up full court player to player with Tania & Whitney using their quickness. If Lisa is to take the program to the next level it's all about defense & rebounding.

We played mostly zone to cover individual defensive weaknesses. In player-to-player, Whitney was taken advantage of a bit more than she probably liked.

The bigger issue is going to be the 4 & 5 spots. I just don't think you can have 4 guards plus Coley. Peschel is not a power forward period.

I believe Lisa will use Kali primarily as a wing (3) but also use her as a 'stretch' forward (4) in late game situations on offense when she wants her best ball handlers and free throw shooters as time is expiring.

So in my mind, Coley, Megan, Mohns, and Stewart- 2 of them must be on the court at all times in you want to have any interior defense and rebounding. Even with 2 of them, we will still be a finesse team.

I agree. Chase, Carly, and Hannah are similar to Kali because they can all shoot from 3 point range, drive the lane, rebound and defend. Megan is strictly an interior player and may need more time to develop her game to the college level, but the potential is there and the foreign trip will benefit her greatly.

Then she can still play on the Italy trip. Is there any chance that Whitney or Chase could try out and make the U.S. team?

They would have to be invited to the tryouts/camp by the committee. Looking back at past rosters I just don't see that happening for either of them though, most of the selected team will have competed for USA dating back to high school.

Ally had her surgery. Expected to be out 3 to 4 months.
As far as the defense Iowa ran last year, I would guess over 2/3 player and 1/3 zone.
