We might only have to win ONE in the BTT?

Unless no other bubble teams win games (which of course they will), beating PSU and Indiana are not what will push us into the NCAA. Heck, it will barely push the needle of our 74th ranked RPI not to mention our 19-14 record.

Committee doesn't pick teams by conference. We need to cheer just as hard against Vandy, K state, etc as we did against Illinois

There was a team who got in last year with a 19-14 record.

They ended up in the Final Four.

It's certainly possible that one win in the B1G tourney would put Iowa in, but far from solid. Iffy at best. If Iowa wins 2 in the tourney, then I would say they are likely locked in.

But still so much is in the air, especially if an unforeseen team or two wins their conference tourney. Iowa is fortunate there is a weak bubble this year.

Don't leave it to chance.

And considering how Iowa seems to have so much trouble in the tourney over the years, it'd be nice to see them actually, you know, advance deep. I think they've made the semi's what...twice?

Just seems like every year, lose the first game...

Doesn't matter unless they beat PSU anyway...THEN kick ass for at least a couple games.

Let's just have the Hawkeyes win the whole damn conference tournament and make it easy for everybody. :)

Also, have the Hawkeyes actually won any game in BTT that Steve Alford has not coached? Damn near doesn't seem like it, and it is getting beyond old.

Need Vandy to lose in current game, Marquette losing could be good too, it very well could just be winning next 2 right now, Illini are toast. The next 2 opponents won't help RPI much but teams in front of us keep losing which automatically raises ours.

Winning 3 means we have to beat #2, either Minnesota or Wisconsin in the BTT. Hmmm...
Winning at Maryland followed up by beating Bucky on the road. Hmm... I know previous Iowa teams have played like crap at the end of season, but just maybe the chemistry of this team is different. We'll have a better idea tomorrow about 2:00.

Without looking it up. Iowa has been in the finals 3 times so there is at least 3 semifinal games

Looking at the RPI just now. We are at 76 but the crazy thing is that it gives previous RPI and our previous RPI was 73! It shows the current record, so I have to assume it's a current rating. How do we beat Wisky on the road and drop 3 spots? That doesn't seem to make sense.

How current is that? If it's a live RPI ranking I would bet that Illinois loss to Rutgers didn't help our RPI much.

It fluctuates as teams play LOL.

And Rutgers winning didn't hurt out RPI. If anything, that one evens out for Iowa. More importantly, Maryland stays as a top 25 win. On the road. That stat is more important.

Fair enough. Just didn't know if losing twice to a team that lost to Rutgers did anything. Also just read that currently Rutgers RPI is lower than Omahas RPI.

The way it played out today so far I think a minimum of 2 wins in the BTT. Today has not been our friend.

Not entirely true. Rooting against projected 10 seeds right now isn't worth it anyway. Resumes are too solidified. Stay very close to the last four in and first four out. Thats where the movement will be over the next week. Most teams only have 1-2 games left!

From that standpoint Cal, Georgia Tech, and Illinois losing are a huge help! Wake also going down to the wire right now!

Beating psu tomorrow THEN winning their first 2 in the BTT are necessary to keep them in the conversation for an at large bid.

We just played our way into the NIT and we should be a lock with a win tomorrow. Never at any time this year have I thought we had a shot at the NCAA's. We have a shot, but we have to keep winning. I refuse to be disappointed with the NIT.

Yes.
NIT bid is looking more solid.
The Dance is still not likely, but also not off the table yet either.
I'm feeling pretty good about the end of this season is as it stands. If they somehow managed to sneak into the NCAA tourney that would be some excellent gravy.

Oh yeah, forgot about the 2006 win.

With the NW State loss, it's easy to forget they won the conference tourney that year

This discussion and some other posts I notice underscore an item I posted a week or so ago. I suggested the NCAA simply enter all 300+ Div 1 teams into the Big Dance. Seed 32 or possibly 64 teams and let them go at it. This is the way the states conduct their HS tournaments by class or school size. One poster dismissed my suggestion by noting that is what the conference tournaments do. Of course that is not true because some conferences get 3-4 or more teams in the tournament. And if was a tournament of the conference champions there would be only 32 teams in the tournament if Athlon Sports is accurate in their College Basketball issue.

This would eliminate all the talking heads/"experts" spending so much time who should and who should not be included. No one is talking about Iowa being "in" this year except for this venue. I certainly believe this Iowa team is one of the best 64 teams in the country. They have been coming on strong near the end of the season. Unless our Hawks win or compete in the conference championship game they may not get in. My suggestion eliminates that concern.
