In the long run, this doesn't mean shvt. We weren't ever going to win a Natty this year anyway. If we can refocus and build from this...come back stronger...the Big Ten West is still there for the taking.

I still believe we have just as good a chance to take this Division as anyone.

Keep your heads up brothers.

Overcome this to go 7-5? This is the Ferentz way. He has a good year every 4 or 5 years. We reward mediocrity at Iowa. Look at what Dantonio is doing at Michigan State. He doesnt settle for mediocre but Kirk Ferentz sure does.....

we have seen this show before.

Come into a season with high expectations after a phenomenal season and underachieve..the following year, continue the collapse and destroy all of the work that could've been built to sustain any success until we are going through a few 6-7 win seasons. Will this be another 2010?

I had hoped (and still hope) that this season would've been/will be different, that instead of the one good season every handful of years that the script would flip and we would see 8-9 win seasons routinely, with one really bad season as often as we currently see really great seasons.

Maybe I am expecting too much as we are "just Iowa"....

Iowa is content to have a good season every 7 or 8 years and then talk about recruiting limitations and how nice the coach is the rest of the time. Already looking forward to a Rose Bowl berth (but not a Rose Bowl WIN--gotta keep those Iowa football expectations in check) in 2023.

Bah, I'd say you will still easily be big 10 champs. I doubt it will go much if any further though. Iowa is still a really good top 15 FBS team, just not as good as NDSU.

Thanks Charlie. I feel better now

You are wrong. Iowa has at least 4 losses remaining, possibly five (Minnesota is the wild card). No way Iowa is top 25. Maybe top 40. MAYBE.

You are the new Boise State. Schedule one decent team early in the season, and win. The rest of the schedule are cupcakes. No need to worry about depth and injuries...

Their team is great, but NDSU fans are a pretty classless bunch. Just saw a bunch of drunken Bison fans in a McDonalds parking lot screaming "scoreboard", as though they had anything at all to do with the win. I wonder what position they played?

Well, they are right

Don't forget that Iowa isn't sexy.

After every good year, I always believe we have a chance to be elite the next year. But then I always get disappointed. I never seem to learn from my mistakes.

Go jump off a cliff, chuck

I do not think this bodes well for any type of bounce back. Losing to an FCS school no matter how good is a bad omen. The only positive thing is that was a Rose Bowl'esque effort, game plan and execution. Had that been against someone good we would have been beaten by 50.

I cannot think of any top 25 team that lost to an FCS team and finished the year with any note able record and accomplishment. I think we are done.

Meeehhh, we will be fine. This was their bowl game, their super bowl if you will. They had guys from Iowa, including their head coach. They were all jazzed up for this game. We played bad and were down our two best offensive linemen including our center. Does it really surprise people that we weren't able to run the ball well today? There was the questionable holding call against Kittle and then the ball getting knocked out of Beathard's hands which sailed directly to their guy for the easy TD. Fluke stuff. We always play to the level of our competition and margin for error is paper thin. They got lucky today. It's unfortunate that we will have to hear about this game for years.

2010 Virginia Tech.

Started off the season 0-2 with a loss to 6-5 James Madison. They won out until their bowl game, winning the ACC title and beating Florida State in the CCG before getting spanked by none other than Andrew Luck and Stanford in the Orange Bowl.

So..............it could happen.

We were sheet today can only play better next week.

2007 Michigan Wolverines

Lost to Appalachian State
Finished #18 in polls
Beat Florida in the Capital One bowl.
Ended up going 9-4

And Michigan was thrilled with 9-4 I am sure (basicslly 8-4 before the bowl win). So an 8-4 for Michugan probably equates to a 7-5 & 6-6 for us.

What was VTechs final ranking? I wonder if they played any ranked teams before FSU as the ACC had some dog crap years but good there's at least one example of making something out of nothing.

Couldn't agree more, "we will be fine" is the coaching mentality of our staff. The only problem with that is the definition of what "fine" is. I want a coach that "like Hayden" wants to go out and thoroughly dominate our opponents, sometimes it doesn't work out that way, but at least you tried. A coaching staff that prepares a wrinkle or two for every game and scripts a game plan that is as fun for the team to play as it is for the fans to watch. We are in for another long Ferentzesk razor thin wins against subpar competition and I believe that he wants it that way.

Can't sugarcoat this loss, but it is only one game. We lost our very small chance at a National championship, and undefeated season, and a shot at the play-offs. We can still win the West and win the B1G championship and a major bowl. Its all still out there but we won't achieve ANY of those goals playing like we did yesterday.

This loss is deflating. They out coached us and out played us on the field. The best we can hope for is to have Michigan, Wisconsin and Nebraska to keep winning so that when we beat them all in Iowa City, we can climb into the top 10 by the end of the year. We have to win the B1G west.

Let's win the next game first after this fiasco.

A, no. Am in Okc and was at OU/OSU last night. If OSU comes out of the East we won't be beating them. Too fast, too well coached. Made OU Look bad and I fear they will have their way with us.

I agree with Tom. OSU is tough as hell and I think that they, along with Alabama, have the inside shot at the National Championship.
