I am sure the weather didn't help, but can anybody remember a Midlands with such thin brackets? I went through the brackets and posted the following info over on themat:

DI AA's per weight at Midlands:

125: 1-Thomas Gilman

133: 3-Clark, Hall and Beckman

141: Arguably the deepest weight-5-Mecate, Jack, Ashnault, Long(albeit several years ago and he is no longer wrestling for a DI team) and Durso.

149: One of only 2 weights with a returning DI NCAA Champ(unless you count Taylor)-4-Sorenson, Tsirtsis, Richardson and Clagon.

157: 0-Maybe that is why Martinez isn't wrestling? Has Midlands ever had a weight class with no DI AA's?

165: 1-Perrotti

174: 1-Walters

184: Thanks to Taylor this may be the strongest weight. 4-Taylor, Dechow, Dudley and Zillmer. Riley Lefever(looks like he dropped out) deserves recognition as a 2X, undefeated DIII Champ.

197: 1-Burak

285: 1-Gwiazdowski

I know there are talented R12 type guys like Lambert, Abidin, Sueflohn, Pack, Gantt, Weatherman, Wilson, Brooks, Studebaker, Wellington and Cabell. Still, this sure looks like the thinnest Midlands I can remember................

The weather kept a few teams out at the last minute. Illinois tweeted they were ready for the Midlands yesterday and then didn't show up today.

Before the weather issues hit the number of ranked wrestlers was pretty impressive. Right there with the Southern Scuffle. I don't know the ins and outs of who didn't make it but it was scheduled to be a very tough tourney.

Again, I don't know who wasn't able to make it but it seems to be that even at "full feed" the tourney was much less competitive a few years ago.
