I'm I over reading the fact that we offered the WR from Texas at this late date? Does it mean the coaching staff feels Martin is leaning towards another school?

Not sure but Martin is not tipping his hand at all and many are growing tired of the drama and impatience of him not mentioning Iowa. In the other Ollie thread, the "experts" have him picking Mich or MSU, 0% Iowa which is nonsense. In state kid, attends Iowa games frequently, etc, etc.
Will be a nice pickup for Iowa and I think he stays here (no inside info) however if he doesn't we will be fine. The longer this goes without him committing after being enamored with Michigan/MSU/Oregon is good for the local guys.

Iowa plans on taking 4 wr's..This kid was starting to gain interest from some other schools. Iowa saw enough from his recent performance to extend an offer..He recently de-committed from Texas State and will be visiting Iowa this weekend (unofficial visit).

It's certainly possible, but who knows.

I do think, however, that people read way too much into things, especially when it comes to recruiting. This board was almost on full meltdown last season just days before Noah Fant and then Alaric Jackson committed to Iowa. Posters were assassinating Fant's character because of a visit he had taken elsewhere and then so many were sure Michigan had swooped in and snagged Jackson at the 11th hour. So in short nobody knows.

I will say, though, if you look at the track record, for whatever reason(s), big-time instate recruits at the WR position have not chosen Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes. However, the fact Oliver Martin is from Iowa City may make a big difference. Who knows.

Drama and impatience? The only drama and impatience around Martin's recruitment is from fans themselves.

First off, it means that they've had a chance to further evaluate some early SR film of the young man ... and they like it. Thus, they feel comfortable enough to offer.

Odds are that the kid projects either as a Hillyer-like WR or a Kittle-like TE. Either way, if they like him and they feel like he can be a good fit ... we definitely are in need of pass-catching recruits for the '17 class.

It is also a sign that we have whiffed at WR among some of our earlier receiving targets ... and we are trying to be pro-active in our recruiting at the position. There are no guarantees in recruiting ... 2 of our other WR targets are Muse out of NJ and Gibbs out of GA. The likelihood that we land either guy isn't necessarily great ... and they probably aren't feeling comfortable about Martin ... so it makes sense to offer new guys as we evaluate their early SR film.

I got to this thread through yahoo news, via direct link. Anyone else think this is odd?

Could it be that he was around Iowa football his entire life and it is no big deal to him anymore, and wants another viewpoint??
