my expectation was anything over .500 was going to be a plus. We have one player with starting minutes that returned and we are relying on several freshman to play big minutes. We beat some good teams in the early big ten schedule and we played strong on the road at Nebraska and gave Maryland (#1 in the big ten) all they could handle. Jok is the only consistent scoring threat on offense. He has dropped off the last couple of games because team are game planning specifically to him. What I am trying to say is, the future is bright, and this team is fun to watch. We weren't going to win a big ten conference championship. Enjoy this exciting team and look forward to the future.

Big Ten or overall?

I was expecting 6 B1G wins on lowside, maybe 9 wins on upside. We are trending towards 6 B1G wins right now, unless we can show we can win on Road

My limited view of B1G teams.....PSU looks really athletic and they are better than us. OSU is athletic but not very good 3ball shooting team, still will give us trouble. Maybe Illinois, Michigan, Rutgers are similar to us. Nebraska, PSU, Minnesota probably aren't a lot better, but they have good guard play.

Fran needs to recruit someone that can create his own shot and by consequence, shots for other players.

My buddy thinks fran needs to search the "transfer" market. Get a grad transfer in here who has experience running the PG.

.500 is and remains a reasonable expectation. Given that Iowa doesn't/didn't have an experienced PG anything above .500 is probably a bonus.

I thought we might be able to get to 16-18 wins this season. I predicted 20 because I thought we would get some "favorable" bounces or catch a team on an "off" night.

Seems to be the polar opposite. We are everybody's best game and teams are just feasting on our youth.

I would have to say .500 overall and 7-8 wins on conference will be fine. I thought they might have an outside shot at the NIT, but I think that might be wishful thinking. Our current struggles are only going to worse due to the fact that we have 0 upper class men contributing outside of JOK.

I have a very loose range of them getting anywhere from 4 to 10 B1G wins.
I thought they'd play some fun games to watch. And they have, including last night.
I thought they'd look scattered, lost, and inconsistent frequently. Which they have. Including last night.

If you expected a workmanlike group with laser focus that goes about its business consistently, then you may not want to watch them this year.

Seeing some steps in the right direction on defense and rebounding and getting an NIT bid would make for a good year for this group.

The reason we are everyone's "best game" is because of the atrocious defense. It's hard to win when the defensive effort is that poor. The only positive defenders on the team are Baer, Moss and possibly Wagner. Everyone else is just bad defensively, for some combination of ability, experience and effort. There is a reason that seemingly every guard we play has a career night or breaks out of a funk against Iowa.

The team needs a week off, to get Jok healthy and to get legs back under them. The focus for the rest of the season should be on finding out which guys are committed to giving effort on the defensive end. Whoever those guys are, play.

I know that. It just seems like this years squad is very bad at "communicating" on the defensive end. Last year the guys would have stretches where they would struggle, but other times look great. So I think this years team is just a "youth" movement. None of our freshman were going to be All Big 10 type of players this year. They are all learning the game and what they have to do to win.

I agree, but that is like telling Kirk the offense needs to be overhauled.

I see similarities in Fran's handing of Dailey and KF's handling of Mitchell.
In both cases, teams need athleticism, but coaches can't find any way to get a guy with athleticism any PT. I would put Dailey's odds at 50/50 whether he sticks around. .

Trending towards 6?

Through 7 games 3-4. This "trends" to 6-8, the another 2 (statistically)

So they are "trending" to 8-10.

So I will take the over vs 6.
Iowa has Rutgers, PSU @ home , neb @ home, Illinois twice, and more that are all winnable games. We've shown we can steal one from solid competition also. I'm guessing 8 or 9 wins in conference
