What would this board have been like between 1956 and 1979?

This is the era in which I became a die hard fan. I for sure remember listening to that UCLA game. Gail Goodrich was the point guard at the time and I believe the game was played in Chicago, some kind of tourney. Basketball was huge then too. Fieldhouse would be full on a weeknight as well. Now we're looking at 6-8K on a weeknight, less if it's an 8 o'clock game. IMHO UCLA nearly ruined BB with their dominance back then. Everyone hated them and I still do to this day.

I actually attended that game, Considering we were supposed to lose and then won it was very exciting. It was played in the Chicago Amphitheater down by the stockyards.

Awesome. I went to some non-conference games back then as most Big 10 games were sold out or we were just poor. I think I went to Duquesne and St. Bonaventure games back when they were powerhouses. The first " special " telecast of an Iowa game that I can remember was Iowa vs. Michigan when they had Cazzie Russel and Bill Bunting circa 1965. Cazzie was the Jordan of the 60's. I think it was as LC said a KWWL channel 7 broadcast.

Here is a brief history of the number of teams invited
to the NCAA Men;s college basketball tournament

1937-1950....8 teams
1951-52.......16 teams
1953-74.......24 teams
1975-78 ......32 teams
1980-82.......48 teams

2011 to the Present.....68 teams

Personally, I believe a 48 team tournament would be
the best. It would be based on Conference champs
and eliminate the post-season conf. tournaments.

They expanded to 64 because too many upsets were happening with the first round Bye teams getting beat when there were 48 teams. They were convinced that it was a huge advantage to the team that had already played a game and had gotten their "nerves" out of the way in game 1.
