Since the other threads are complaining about where we are playing.... let's discuss WHO we are playing.

Saw someone post that Auburn only won 4 of their last 13, so I like that maybe they are trending in the wrong direction.

They lost their 1st game in their conf tournament too.

Looks like their best win was just back on March 4th. Home against Tenn.

What style do they play. Best players? Any big athletic posts or will Rebraca be able to do his thing?

Andy from BTN thinks IA has a good chance to be in the sweet 16 if IA can play up tempo and hit 3s... Auburn beat NW earlier in the season in a neutral court by 1, 43-42, so I like IA's chances. Good offense against Defense, I think IA played some good defensive teams in the B10 plenty of times already. GO Hawks!

It sounds like they're long, athletic, and good defensive team but really suspect offensively. Somebody posted their offensive ranking this season in another thread and it's awful.

I see Auburn has 5 guys listed at 6'10 or 6'11 on their roster. Filip will be challenged big time.

It all comes down to if IA is hitting from the perimeter I think. If yes, we stand a decent chance.

Will the excuse "they use a Wilson ball" be used again? So tiring.

I'd be making the players sleep with that damn Wilson in their arms.

The kind that Iowa never wants to see.

Tough, physical defense.

So, the same as any other Iowa game.

But seriously. A Fran-led Iowa game is almost always going to come down to their 3PT shooting %.

If the number is good, they got a decent shot to beat just about anyone. If the number is bad, or worse, they are in a favorable position to lose to just about anyone.

Sounds like Bama fans will be cheering for Iowa at this game, they hate Auburn so much. LoL.

I see this Auburn team similar to Indiana from an athletic standpoint but they aren’t as disciplined when I watched them at Bama a couple weeks ago. Iowa has a chance if it can defend and stop their guards while hitting from three point range.

Auburn and Iowa both had early exits last year and each team had a top 5 draft pick, so of course they now play in this tournament. The irony, Auburn vs Iowa was a trendy Elite 8 game pick by many last year.

The 3 best defensive teams that Iowa's played all season is ISU, Rutgers, and Northwestern. 4-1 record against those teams?
lol

Unfortunately, we won’t get to play Auburn (#29 DER) at CHA.

Our away/neutral record against top 30 defenses (which includes PU, Wisconsin, Duke, TCU and Seton Hall) is 2-5 (and the two wins are against non-tourney teams, RU and Seton Hall).

Defensive rankings don't necessarily explain what kind of defense Iowa hates having to put effort into scoring against...............Take Wisconsin for example.

Fwiw, Auburn is the #5 3pt defense in the country. Houston is 2nd.........

Fran is gone.

So it may not be as much of a home court as I first figured. Maybe the Bama fans will cheer us on in the 2nd game if we make it because we eliminated their rival.

I’ve watched them 3 or 4 times…only because Pearl coaches them and I wanted to see them lose. They are athletic. There is nothing special about them. It seems they haven’t had a consistent starting five. (Not sure why. They play good defense on the perimeter. In the games I watched, they didn’t turn the ball over all that much BUT really made some poor decisions, especially in shot selection. They aren’t going to work the clock much.

Why would Alabama fans even be there? They are not playing there.

To root against Auburn.
Alabama certainly is playing in Birmingham AL, just like the Hawkeyes are. Pretty easy for their fans to stick around and use those tickets to root against their mortal enemies. Let them roar! Roll Tide!
