As soon as the Olympics are done sign him as recruiting coordinator. Send him all over the country promoting 1. Himself he earned it, 2. USA. 3. The U of I.
Recruiting coordinators cannot recruit off campus unless they are one of the 3 paid assistant coaches. So this plan is worthless without removing one of the 3 current assistants so you can’t just stop at making him “recruiting coordinator.”
I’d prefer to keep Spencer focused on freestyle until his HWC contract expires and then transition him into coaching
Does anyone know whether Spencer wants to be a coach? It seems like it's a foregone conclusion but I don't sense Spencer being "that guy". Where am I wrong?
He has been a pretty good coach for never being a coach.
He has coached plenty. PSU would love him back and that is no lie. You don't need a title to be one.
I would think that most Iowa fans would want a staff without ties to Iowa. Spencer to RTC makes more sense to me.
I think most Iowa fans want the best available hires regardless of school affiliations. Mike Mal formerly at Flo eluded to the fact moving foreword all these jobs will require more CEO type than technical wrestling guy.

Spencer has this Olympics and then one more I would guess. He will 100% be involved in the program in some sort after that.
I do think Gilman will be a very good coach.
Weird a psu fan thinks he needs to be the one to comment on whether Thomas is liked or burned bridges with Iowa.
I was hoping the psu crew that is here would move over to the Okie St board. They seem very excited about the Okie St program now.
I believe he wants to be an AD. So coaching would certainly be a stepping stone.
At some point in the past Spencer said he wanted to be an Athletic Director. His contract with HWC runs through the LA Olympics and n 2028. If he can remain injury free, he’d compete until then. It would be awesome to see Spencer be a 2x Olympic Gold Medalist and a 4x World Champion.

Spencer has kind of been pretty out there with waning to move into roles as an athletic director once he's done competing, not really coaching. Maybe that's changed. Either way, I'm not sure Spencer is the "big personality" type. He's more a "lead by example" type, IMO. That's no inside info and just an outside read.

He has publicly said he is not really a vocal leader. He once said Kemmerer was the team leader. I believe he even alluded to not being the hardest worker in practice. He mainly concentrates on learning his craft. Which, to me, means he can certainly teach the craft.
What exactly did Spencer establish relationships with the top youth programs in the country?

I would expect nothing less than a smart ass remark from you. Here are facts dumb ass, if you show up to events and have conversations with people specifically wrestlers, coaches, and donors you find out things. A few of my conversations have been with someone closer to the Iowa Hawkeye program than you could ever wish to be.
I was also 100% correct on our debate about the Okie state coaching job. My source was one of the people directly involved yet you stood on your soapbox like you actually knew something which you didn’t. So please save your BS for someone else.
You no doubt got me on Okie State. It took a very late move to do it, but I was ultimately wrong. But that doesn’t mean you’re suddenly an insider after all these years. 😂

On a sidenote, I would not mind meeting up with any of the members here, or Hawkeye fans in general. I do have a list of members. I would really like to have face-to-face conversation and shake hands with you are no doubt on that list.
