When will Logan Lee get bumped to a 4 star?

The dude won a heavy weight wrestling state championship as a half hearted wrestler and felt bad other guys on his team had put in more into wrestling. I dont care where he plays he is gonna be a stud.

I really like Lee, but still wonder if we'll see him as a DE/DT down the road more so than TE.
He's a bit of a smaller town guy. You have to wonder how much actual training he's had concerning speed training. You can be a "fast" guy and still not time well because you have a lot of wasted motion. If he's even in the ball-park of 4.8 ... that can still be perfectly respectable for a TE (at least for an in-line TE). However, otherwise, yeah ... otherwise you might wonder if the staff wants to tap into more of his short-distance explosiveness for the purposes of another position.

5.13 40 is OT fast , He sure wont stretch the field.

Lee seems to be having some really good camps:

Logan Lee wanted to create separation.

Within a few steps, he had it. There was a passing window for the quarterback as he ran downfield.

His 1-on-1 receiving drill performance at Nike’s The Opening regional was going as well as he hoped.

“I was able to stack the defensive back and after that I was pretty much in control of the ball,” Lee said. “He was kind of hanging on me, but I could come back and catch it.”

Lee’s receiving work capped an impressive performance, which impressed recruiting analysts, at the Massillon, Ohio, event on May 5.

But more importantly, it validated his offseason plan and is positioning the 4-star 2019 prospect to become a more well-rounded tight end before signing with Iowa.
.
He threw himself into his training. Four times a week he did speed- and power-based workouts at his high school.

He added 35 pounds to his bench, throwing up 335 pounds and also squatting 470-480 pounds in the last two months.

Two times a week he went to a local sports performance center, where his sessions focused on speed, agility and explosiveness. Lee also spent time studying videos on how to run better routes.

He didn’t specifically train for the various tests the way some eastern Iowa prospects do, but his methods paid off.

His 102.81 Nike football rating, designed to measure overall athleticism, was the second-highest mark for a tight end at the camp. The figure takes into account an athlete’s 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle run, broad run and power ball toss while also factoring in their weight.

Lee also excelled in his position-specific work. 247Sports national analyst Steve Wiltfong named him one of the top performers at the event.

Not sure what site has him as a 4 star, maybe 247s own ranking. Anyhow he ought to get bumped to at least a 5.7. Kid is going to be good in some capacity regardless.

Lot's of good stuff here.
As I've stated repeatedly there is track speed and football speed.
I've read posters here and elsewhere call The Outlaw slow. I've seen the same thing said about Wadley and King.
But if someone has extraordinary instincts coupled with great read&reaction time then they don't have to win sprint trophies.
Some kids you put them on the football field and you ask them to:
1) run crisp routes
2) block
3) catch the football
4) get yards after the catch
5) high point the ball
6) don't get caught from behind
7) don't be injury prone
Now a very very small number of kids can do all 7 of those things. But even if a kid can do only 6 or even 5 of those things, he's still gonna be a special talent.
BTW, when I say "football speed" I'm talking about a kid who has an extra gear (at Iowa we call it extra heartbeat) when he gets on the football field. Wadley had it. King had it. Jackson had it. Fant has it. Maybe Logan Lee has it. I just know I already view him as a 4-star steal.

Fant is such a different animal at TE. He has such unique skills for a guy that big. He's not Gronk like. He's not a WR. He's some kind of hybrid and it will will be interesting to see what an NFL team does with him.

Lee's hands seem pretty impressive. He definitely appears to be an excellent athlete.

I also found myself somewhat impressed with how William Enneking gets out of his breaks. I bet you he's a kid who the Hawks are keeping an eye upon.
Enneking is indeed a guy that's been on Iowa's radar. He's visited before and will be back for camp in June.

Great Video of Lee. Reliably catching the ball and shedding muggers like hes out on the streets of Chiraq. Not so sure why he hasn't had the receiving numbers in high school, maybe its his teams O. Anyway he should get an opportunity to showcase that part of his game at Iowa. Obiously hes a hard worker in the weight room and hes already as big as a typical TE on Iowa's roster. Can't wait to see him out there.

I would imagine that Hickman and Stephens are at the top of Iowa's TE board. I was just saying that Enneking is firmly in Polasek's recruiting territory ... and they're likely keeping tabs on him. Will they offer him - I have no idea.
Seems to be a bit of variance in Stephen's height. I have seen him at 6'7 and 6'5. I also wonder if they are deadset on 2 TE's.

My guess is that in a pinch - they'll likely take a "best available" approach when finishing up their '19 class recruiting. If we're considering context, Fant likely leaves for the NFL after '18 and I wouldn't be shocked if Vejvoda ultimately transfers. On top of that, in '18, we have 3 JR TEs (Fant, Wieting, and Cook) ... Wieting is a guy who we already know will be playing a lot in '18 and '19 ... and many anticipate that Cook will play some in '18 and play a lot more in '19. The point here being that we're set to lose 2 more contributors after the '19 season (in addition to Fant - who will likely be gone even earlier).

At least from my vantage, the above points to the Hawks "wanting" to take in 2 TEs in the '19 class. We've obviously have already landed one high-quality guy ... however, who will be #2?

Assuming that Beyer is legit ... the fact that Beyer and Hockenson are both just sophomores might give us a little extra wiggle-room. If the coaches have the option of landing an extra high-quality WR or similar ... then maybe the coaches will roll the proverbial dice.

While the Hawks may have difficulty landing high-quality WRs ... they've usually been able to enjoy some success recruiting TEs.

It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall and hear how they are discussing Stephen's vs Hickman. I know Hickman was all the buzz early but he seems to be slowing and Stephen's really impressed at the last camp.

Irrespective of camp performances, the Hawks offered Hickman based on what they've seen of him in person and on tape. The quality of his tape hasn't changed from last season. If there has been any "slow down" with Hickman ... it's been from his end because his recruitment blew up. If the Hawks are receiving more reciprocal interest from Stephens ... then that could potentially lead them to redirect their focus. However, at this point, I would venture to guess that just as long as the guy has visited campus ... the Hawks would take whomever commits first.

Haha. Homer calls the shot. Good work man.
After our usual junior camps during June ... I anticipate a few more commits. Usually the camps lead to a few more offers too ... because the coaches get a chance to further evaluate some guys who they like. I'll be curious to see how things shake out through June.

Counting Moss, our 'ship total for the '19 class is at 10. The total class size seems poised to be in the neighborhood of 18ish (and that is assuming a good bit of attrition). Coming out of June ... I sincerely wonder what our total number of commits will be ... maybe 13 or 14?

Nix what I wrote ... I didn't realize it before, but Moss is actually a "blue-shirt" ... not a gray-shirt. Consequently, he really will count towards the 2018 recruiting class. He's essentially a preferred walk-on come summer/fall camp ... and then he'll go on scholarship come January.

At the end of the day, he'll still be occupying a scholarship in '19 though.

What's not true?

Everything. Ya ever see that Twilight Episode where reality was turned upside down at the end? That's where we are at. Who knows if my name is Joel and your name is David? Were livin in scary times and can't trust anything or anyone.

Lee did not get the Rivals 4* bump, but he moved up to #19 in overall TE rankings. Of course its splitting hairs, but nonetheless food for recruitniks. That is higher than some other TE targets of ours...

Now he is ranked #6 in IL, one ahead of #7 Castro. Nice to recruit IL well, although Minny is too. I say if we get Brock we win the state without question.

If you're taking about the recruiting map that went around, the source they used was 247's composite to compile the data. As the rankings stand right now, if Iowa landed Brock, Iowa would have a .44 point total ahead of Minnesota for the state of Illinois. A slight change in the ranking or one more commit and it could easily change.
