A week or so ago there were 400 infected people and a handful of deaths. All in China (iirc).

A few days ago there were 4000 infected people, in a number of nations, and 80-odd deaths.

Now it's around 8000 infected - including 6 in the US - and over a hundred deaths.

When does it get "real" to you?

It is already. I think this one gets ugly. It's felt different from the beginning. And I have zero confidence in this admin to handle an event like this could turn out to be.
I've already decided that I won't be eating out for lunch like I usually do until things slow down. Might start buying some supplies so that we can stay in more in general.

When the media tells me to panic bc they think they can blame a virus killing .0001% of the people influenza is, on Trump.

JFC
Wash your hands and don't touch your face.
If you're legit changing your normal local eating habits bc of a virus that's infected 6 people in the USA, you should probably just never leave your home.

It might get to that, we'll have to wait and see. Until then I don't see the point in rolling the dice. It's already been reported in the state and no one knows if it's been contained or not.

Well I'm still scheduled to fly into Hong Kong in a few weeks. So yeah, I've been pretty stressed for a few days now

I wouldn't go, youre nuts if you do that.

Based on the current models, it will probably have shut down everything before you get there.

I have it on good authority that they will soon send out a memo instructing government employees not to use words like "epidemic" or "pandemic" or "outbreak" or "contagion" or "disease" or "spreading" or "corona virus."

You know, like they did with "global warming" and "climate change."

That should take care of the problem. Oh, probably shouldn't use "problem" either.

well pandemic is correct, where as global warming is a falsehood

As soon as wee Willy Gates announces his new coronavirus vaccine is ready and the government is mandating everyone gets one.

I guess I'll get concerned when there are confirmed cases in my county.

Going into DC Saturday though so I'll probably go ahead and contract it then. T's & P's for a quick demise, please!

Over the weekend I had ordered a box of face masks from a supplier in case i have travel next month. I bought the box for a grand total of $5. That box is now selling for $25. I am a bit worried already but if that box hits 50 buckaroos I will be even more worried and in addition pissed off (that i didn’t place a mega order.)

I got my old SARS masks out of the basement and I'm wearing one right now.

If there is a confirmed case in my city (Sioux City) then I’m worried. Might think about pulling kids from school.

You should be hoping there are lots of these. All those unwashed infecting each other, killing off Trump supporters? I should think you'd be gleeful. ;)
That would be the best way to get universal healthcare.

Maybe. The Spanish Flu of 1812 was harder on people with stronger immunities.
Yeah, it isn't always the old and young that are hit hardest.

My father had the Spanish flu. (I'm old and he was middle-aged when I was born.) It was WWI and he was newly inducted into the Army. Spent 3 months in military hospital and was then discharged. Full recovery took much longer. Some of his army buddies died. I wish now that I knew enough to ask questions about it when I had the chance.

You are in your 60s and you have an Antifa flag as your avatar ?

I don't support communism, how about you ? don't you think Antifa is kind of a radical group ?

  • Possible infections are at 12,167 inside China with recoveries listed as 163
  • The World Health organisation has declared a global public health emergency because of the spread of the virus outside China, describing it as an “unprecedented outbreak”.
  • Cases outside China of the virus are increasing and is estimated to be over 100.
  • Recent global updates include Italy (2), France (6), Germany (5), Australia (9).

Note that while the number of deaths per number of infected people may not be so scary, the number of deaths (213) is greater than the number of recoveries (163).

It may not be the black death, but we don't yet know how deadly it is.

Is this kinda like ‘matter’ vs ‘investigation’ ?
