We need to start a web page for Max to stay home. One of the most impressive offer lists for an Iowa kid I can recall. What are the odds he is a Hawkeye?
Would love to have him, if he wants to be a hawk. Me thinks he really wants to go somewhere else. My question is if they land Petras and thier first pick (duggan) says no, do they go after a "fall back" QB in 19 or would having Stanley, PM, Petras get us into 2020?
4 QBs on schollie never fall below that
If Weigers and Boyle both leave then I think we have to take a 2019 QB. If one of them doesn't leave I think you skip QB in 2019. As someone else mentioned if you go past your 3rd string you probably pissed the season away anyway.
Your reading comprehension and/or math skills are severely deficient. In my eyes, Tyler never was and never will be irrelevant as long as he chooses to be a Hawkeye. We are beyond fortunate to have such a gifted young man next in line. In the blink of an eye (God forbid) any starter (even a budding superstar) can go down. I believe that we would be in good and capable hands with Tyler - who just might be another superstar in waiting. I think we all remember having three Division I QB starters here at the same time not so long ago. Add young Mr. Mansell to the mix and maybe we have them again. Hope upon hope that they all stay.
The staff should just stay in the habit of taking a QB every class. Duggan has played alot but his numbers don't seem that great. What are some of the reason folks are so high on him?
Good call. Didn't put 2 and 2 together there. Nevertheless if boyle stays Imo they should use the scholly somewhere else. The likelihood of them all going down is worth the risk. Plus there is something to be said for going after a 2020 and saying there was a hole open.

I don't see him signing with Iowa due to the style of offense and him getting interest from much higher programs. People are high on him due to camp exposure. I had a coach tell me he could tell the difference when Max was throwing the ball even when he had his back turned to him.
That would be math! Sorry...Your reading comprehension and/or math skills are severely deficient.
Maybe we should be more flexible with our offense to match the players we have....just saying.
He just got an offer from Ohio State.
And? Iowa beat them 55-24. Yawn.
LoL. I wish Iowa played like that every week but we know it's not that easy. At least Iowa coaches can use that result as food for thought when talking to Max about helping Iowa trend upward, be more consistent week in and week out so they take the step to the next level by winning the games they shouldn't drop, especially at home - Purdue, NDSU, Etc.
It's hard to recruit high level offensive players when your offense tends to be outside the top 100.
Is the offense not that great because of the system, or because of the players? Kind of chicken and egg thing. If my goal is to play in the NFL, going to Urban's offense is not where I'm going to do that.
Duggan would be a major get for the Hawks. If he has some running ability, Iowa would use more of the things that played to those abilities, similar to what they did with Banks. In 2002, Banks rushed for 435 yards and 5 TD's.
No, it's not a chicken/egg thing. The structure of the offense is clearly limiting its output. As such...most top offensive players don't want to be part of it.

Name a team which runs an offense you would prefer to see. Asking for a friend.
Are you really saying we shouldn't go after the highest-rated in-state QB in really ever because our third or fourth-string QB will still be on the roster? Talents like Duggan you always, always take. His first year on campus Stanley will be a senior. Perfect situation to come into.
Do you really think one scholarship going to a player other than QB will improve the team in the short term? Who exactly do you think the coaching staff will land that will win one extra game?No I am not. Read my post above this one. What I said was if they get Petras, which is now unlikely, and do not get thier first pick (Duggan) in 19 they should consider opening a hole for 2020, as a selling point to a stud, and not get what they would consider a second behind Duggan.
But these times they are a changin my friend. Petras looks like a no go now so IMO what they should do is pass on Wan this year. Sell Boyle the program again and pray no matter what it doesn't make it past Mansell this year. That way you can now sell Duggan an year opening and if he falls out you can go after another stud with that ammo. Basically I don't think having a qb in the class just to have one is the best way to manage the ships. We need more athletes and sometimes you have to gamble a little. To use the term chicken and egg gambling a little bit could break that cycle and honeslty if it doesn't work out, ya had 19 years all good things come to an end.

I strongly believe that an extra QB competing, learning the system, and pushing other QBs gives the team the best chance for a good QB after Stanley. A good QB vs an average QB can win extra games for a team.
This is why I have such a disagreement with your argument. It’s like you think if Iowa passes on a QB they’ll land some five star game changing recruit, which won’t happen. Either that, or you think QB isn’t an important position, and that the team can afford to not have a good player there.
QB is one of the biggest bang for your buck position, that’s why if you complain about the lack of talent you shouldn’t also preach skipping out on your best ROI position.
