Where is the offense?

Honest question for our resident experts - what is stopping our guys from scoring more? The numbers don't lie, we're struggling to get any consistent offense going throughout the lineup (at least against real competition). It's also puzzling to see our upperclassmen not really developing different attacks as they progressed thru the years. Some of them wrestle the same way when they first put on the Iowa singlet.

So, I'm truly curious - what is stopping our offense and how can we get better? Is it technique? Mentality? Coaching? Talent?

1) Talent
2) Coaching

Wrestling is dying because the sport is becoming boring. Iowa wrestles boring style. They used to wear guys out and own the 3rd period. Now, Iowa is a team hoping to win on a last second move....which Iowa wrestlers don't have. Whichever coaches are responsible for offensive game plan and strength and conditioning at Iowa need to reevalute their plan because they are failing miserably. Most of Iowa's guys look like they haven't see the weight room compared to their opponents. That's ridiculous with the resources that get thrown the wrestling team's way.

Not creating angles and setting things up. You can't just push and dive forward on your feet. That's what there doing most of the time. However on the other hand backing straight up used to be stalling. Apparently those days are over.

I think the end game is still @NCAAs. If Brands and Company can pull it out and then address the strength department big time, then they have righted the ship.

Agree, too much in place to have five 5th year seniors collect ZERO Big 10 Championships. But again, redemption possibly awaits in St. Louis. Maybe, hopefully.

I don't think it's as much an Iowa thing as it is the currant state of affairs in college wrestling. Look at the semi finals last night at 125, all three matches were 0-0 after the first period. The lack of stall calls is going to kill the sport.

So Gilman and Sorenson haven't seen a weight room? Hilarious. If you think strength is the most important thing in wrestling ask Dylan Ness how that went for him. The Hawks just need to create some angles. What happened to the drags gusts like Slaton were so good at. Brands and Ironside were outstanding with the drag series. I don't get it.

This. It's not just Iowa, it's college wrestling in general. With the exception of the NCAA tourney, the B1G tourney is the premier event in college wrestling - and look at the overall product. Way too many scoreless first periods, way too many matches without a TD, and way too many ride-out wins in OT. It's not a good product when this happens repeatedly. I spent a perfectly good Sunday afternoon watching college wrestling and I feel that my time could have been better spent doing other things.

In order to have more offense, you need to have two wrestlers ready to go for it (IMar-Ness match for example). I don't like that we don't create more offense in evenly contested matches but our opponents are not lighting the scoreboard either - so as said earlier, this is a current trend in college wrestling and it is really not good for sport.
In addition to luck of offense, the official reviews are ridiculous as well. It often takes 5-6 minutes for refs to make a decision after a review. I think that they need to change this process in a hurry.
