I've seen several of these comparisons on YT. The answer isn't always the same, even when the same guitars are used, but it's still fun to compare. Especially when they're playing a piece that you know more-or-less how it's "supposed" to sound.
Absolutely. And what strings you are using, and so on. But what's your choice in this particular comparison?Depends on what song you want to play.

I have been on such a Pink Floyd kick lately. Listen to Echoes pretty much every day.Strat always my favorite tone
Yeah. I have a very nice 1989 Strat but my 1969 SG is my favorite to actually pick up and play.Meh I’ll take my SG with the soapbars over any of them
I also have a 1969 Tele Thinline that I picked up in a pawn shop ages ago. It's pretty beat up, so I don't actually use it. But it's very cool. Lots of character.I am pretty partial to the tele as that's pretty much all I play lately, but the Gibson sounded very good to me. @What Would Jesus Do? and I may just have each other's wish list guitars. I have an American Deluxe tele, and I have always thought I might want an SG. I am not very guitar promiscuous though and won't likely stray far from the tele.
I feel like for authenticity's sake, that particular song calls for the strat "quack" you get from the 2 or 4 position in the 5 way pickup selector switch-- I am ambivalent about the quack tone in general.
