Who do you Blame Most for MAGA?

Who do you blame most for MAGAs endurance?

It’s me, not you. No /s

I get hung up on absolutes, for example “all of maga” or “all democrats”.

I can’t put that many people in buckets based on how they voted.

I think the only absolute you and I could agree on: most people suck 🫠😂

Your last statement is 💯. It’s the absolute I’ve lived and will know until the end. Happily btw. Know thy enemy.

Out of these options, who do you blame most or hold most in contempt for Trump's hijacking of the GOP and the persistence of MAGA/Trumpism for nearly a decade now? The options are not exhaustive - Trump himself is absent - so choose the closest bucket and/or explain.

- Grifters/Benefactors: People who participate/perpetuate the movement for profit/power. Examples: Right wing media, the MAGA political class (MTG, Boebert, Lake, Santos, etc.), Musk, Big Tech leaders, crypto folks, only care about lower taxes, or some specific regulatory item, etc.

- Spineless Know Betters: The 'traditional' Republican politicians who let their party get hijacked. They know better, privately they wish Trump never existed, publicly they toe the line. They could have impeached him after 1/6 but they overestimated the decency of their base and took the easy way out. They stand by with the absurdity, the repulsive behavior, the conspiracies', and are feckless. And much of it wasn't endured to obtain traditional conservative policy. The GOP has gone populist. Free trade? That's for Marxists now.

- The "Deplorables" - the group that most people think of when thinking of MAGA. They're in red hats, flags flying, their identity is tied to Donald Trump, 1/6ers, detached from reality, it's like a religion. Many of them are at least one of: angry, impoverished, in pain, addicted, bitter, resentful, undereducated, left behind. They are vulnerable to a 'savior' character like Trump and are in need for a group to blame/hate, and a group to belong to and feel apart of... MAGA.

- Disinterested/Reluctant Trump voter - The people who cannot be bothered to pay attention to the news and politics. They usually vote in the presidential elections, sometimes not. Maybe they lean conservative, maybe they're rural, maybe their friends and family were always Republican growing up, so when it comes time to vote, they usually vote for Republican. Maybe they voted for a Democrat the last time, but their sense of the trajectory of the country, calls for a switch.

- Democrats - They ran poor candidates. Two women, one really old man. Hillary was vilified for years and was anointed, plus her emails. Biden was too old and feeble. The handoff to another anointed - minority - woman was not ideal. They focused too much on DEI, and got too soft on immigration, inflation occurred on Biden's watch. They slow walked the Trump criminal prosecutions. Their candidates and performance fostered an environment where Trumpism can thrive.
Fox News.

Why didn’t Pelosi call in the National Guard when offered? Politics?

Why did she blame herself for not having enough security personnel at the Capitol that day?
Possibly because she couldn’t fathom the US president at the time would be cheering on the revolutionary mass of duped idiots that bought his lies

The origin of MAGA goes back decades with the advent of unbridled divisiveness in the country and most certainly between the two parties. And who was the author of much of this - Rush Limbaugh and his caustic afternoon radio show.

I agree that Rush brought hatred in politics front and center, He spawned a next generation of personalities wanting to emulate his success and saw a great opportunity for profit.

I'm surprised Democrats are in 2nd place. Of course, 7-8 of those votes are Ryan.

Any way.... I find it disturbing that our resident MAGAs live in a world where they take no responsibility for their actions. Sound familiar?

The GOP first selected Trump over multiple qualified candidates in 2016. I admit they had no choice in 2020. Again in 2024, they had a large field from which to select their nominee but chose Trump. Let me give you a hint. That ain't on the Democrats. Find a freaking mirror!

The GOP is wholly responsible for Trump and his minions.

stupid polls lead to this. Thinking one thing (or one party) is the answer. When did people become so binary and not consider multiple solutions to one problem?

Why blow up a bipartisan bill on the border if that's the case? Seems like multiple solutions to solve a large problem (as claimed by GOP). It's such bullshit when people say things like this.

It comes down to one thing. MAGA (used to be R) and D. MAGA is much more likely to say F the country for their party. It starts at the top

There’s plenty of blame to go around. The question I have: Who is going to get us out of this mess?

As much as I do want to put most of the blame on Republicans, Dems haven’t been doing anything to actually fight it.

We need a common voice to unite behind and fight it.

I just don’t see that happening anytime soon.
The problem with anyone who's more "moderate" is they're going to be attacked by both extremes and the media, social media bots, etc will feed right into it. We are now literally "programmed" for division, not unity.
Look at this board, a reasonable discussion of any topic is nearly impossible. There's a predictable group of about 4-5 on either side that immediately devolve into simplistic stereotypes and name calling. Nobody can ever admit their side might be wrong on something, or the other side might be right on something.
