Which of our liberal posters is NOT on the government dole?

Interesting. The only reason I asked is to see if there was a specific characteristic about your job/career/situation that leads you to vote democrat. Seems to me you can guess a person's political leaning purely by career choice/situation a great majority of the time. But of course there are a certain percentage of people who are truly just social issue voters.

OK I'm actually a pretty moderate former Republican that got fed up with the push and venom from the far right. Guys like Rush Limbaugh turned me off and when the Church stopped preaching the gospel and started teaching politics, that was it for me.

The only thing that the Democrats could do to push me and probably millions like me back would be to attack my second amendment rights. Surly they wouldn't be that stupid, would they?

Oops, Go Trump!

Nobody is coming to take away your guns. They haven't come for mine and I'm certain nobody will.

Socially, Trump's actually pretty moderate. I really think if he won we'd lose any alliances, however. He needs to tone down the rhetoric.

Do you mind me asking what type of manufacturing specifically?
Actually no, I've said before, not often because of the other stupid stuff I might say, I work for Parker Hannifin. We manufacture consumer and industrial hose. The Plant was originally Electric Hose and Rubber, bought out by Dayco Inc and then by Parker.

Then you don't really fit the mold of the liberal democrats I'm looking for. And by the way - there is just as much push and venom from the left as the right - if not more. You must be an am radio listener if you think otherwise!!

The biggest threat to my gun right could come from a liberal Supreme Court. Hillary's attack on the law stopping gun manufacturers from being sued out of existence would be another. It was a tactic that Bill's administration employed, that was when the law was put into place.

Trump is pretty moderate, so is Hillary. I would still support Sanders before Hillary.

Then you shouldn't have called me a liberal for 8 years. ;)

Now you are really confusing. You call yourself a moderate and then claim you'd vote for Bernie!?!? The Bern is left of Trotsky! Ain't no moderates supporting him at this point in the race.

As a registered Democrat I would only be able to caucus for a Democrat. I have never been to a caucus and likely won't, this is only the second time that the Dem's have done it in Nebraska. I like the person that Bernie Sanders is. Hillary? Not so much. I don't agree with everything Sanders stands for, but I know he would never get it passed anyway.

I do like the Idea of a cradle to grave Medicare for catastrophic coverage so I'm closer to Bernie on that. We part ways pretty far on Welfare though, I'm further right than most on that. Fire up the orphan trains again and we'd see if these moms actually could work. Hell some of them fight find a condom now and then.

One doesn't have much to do with the other, swag. Did you ever take biology? You do understand why babies are born, right?

Absolutely it does, had she not gone "all in" your dad wouldn't gotten head at least. He's satisfied, you're mom has a bad taste in her mouth, and you don't post here.

Everyone Wins!

I hope it was large enough. To be safe I think we should raise your benefits and muteo's tax burden.
Well moral, thanks for your concern. You do know that we "most selfish and untrustworthy" folks didn't get a raise this year! Now combine that with the fact that I lived on my good looks and charm for the previous year and the year before while I was gainfully employed in the nation's economy, I was given only a 2% raise, well moral, I have been struggling. And now today, SEC has labeled me selfish and untrustworthy and swag has questioned my parentage and then Herk and SEC dogpiled me...well, I just may need some psychological help...which is further complicated by Teflon Terry "modernizing" the state's MedicAid program.....My GAWD moral....Is everyone turning against me?? All at once? Or am I a latent Republican feeling the slings and arrows of modern politics? or am I just having a bad day?
But moral....thanks for your concern. Maybe by thinking of the good people here, I can make it until sunrise tomorrow!

Liberal on about every social issue and investment in infrastructure. Torn on the most effective way to handle fiscal issues like healthcare and the debt.

Big four auditor checking in.

Damn government workers sucking off the teat of the American tax payers. They're obnoxious.
I believe you are latched on to two teets. You enjoy that retirement at my private sector existence.

The faster the baby boomers leave this dimension...the better off we will all be. The most selfish and untrustworthy generation of our time.

Demographically speaking this is significant.

The middle class has indeed shrunk, because genX is a smaller generation than the Boomers.(it's math)

GenY is significantly larger than genX, so a boom is coming.

It's math.

Not politics.

So 22, there is a chance that I won't be a member of the most selfish and untrustworthy generation forever? You're saying the cavalry is on the way!
Maybe those Generation X'ers are just a bunch of whiney babies!

DEFINED BENEFIT RETIREMENT PLANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a paramedic, now I teach at a community college. I have worked for county and state owned services my entire working life, starting as a soldier when I was 18. I don't consider myself a hero in any way, but I put in an honest day's work for a day's pay. Just like anyone else.

As far as defined benefit plans, I contribute a significant amount to my defined pension plan. FWIW, we have the choice of defined benefit or a TIA CREF. It's about 50/50 in the college. I don't see it as being any different than a 401k match. Certainly not as lucrative as stock options.

I have voted for Democratic and Green Party candidates for president. I have some socially liberal views but don't align with one party. I have been self employed for 17 years. The only taking I do is in the cornhole from the government. No pic nat.

Yes.

If you understand basic math.

Boomers>genX<genY

Watch the ebb and flow of actual head-count and you'll understand.

I appreciate your response. I was being a bit flippant. There is a huge difference between 401k plans and defined benefit plans. My reference was to defined plans that are literally breaking municipalities. They were negotiated by government folks who either had no insight, total apathy, or got chewed up by talented union leaders. I am taking about people who work 25 or 30 years and receive 60% of their salary for life. Those plans are too rich to fund. Stock options are another story few of us ever have a chance to experience. Sounds like you have a good plan that is in line.

My wife's best friend retired from a school district at 55 and get full health insurance + $50,000 a year for life. I can't imagine that district remaining solvent for another 30 or 40 years.

If this woman taught teenagers Herk, she deserves every damned cent she gets. Particularly if they were not her teenagers. The worst thing about teaching and coaching more oft than not is............kid's parents.

I am not jabbing anybody's occupation Joel. I am just stating that there are contracts which cannot be funded.

Joel, I believe that there are multiple consequences for these rich retirement plans. Not only is the recipient at jeopardy, the financial stability of the institution is at risk, and ultimately the children are at risk.

Again...who's fault is it? Unfortunately the folks signed the contract "in good faith." At the time of signing they seemed "doable"....
I'm the first to admit and understand that times change and so do finances. Government entities are notorious for making bad business decisions. Look at all the damn tax revenue states give away when a business comes looking for a hooker? States waive revenues, give away free money and waive costs for utilities to land these guys. Are they greedy bastards? They are no more or no less greedy than the unions/associations that negotiate contracts for their members. States have inferiority complexes and will give away the family jewels for a business. Corporate welfare is not any different than government welfare programs to the poor, the indigent and chronically unemployed. In fact they might be worse because that money is just given to the corporation for them to spend however they see fit......Atleast human welfare program $$ gets recirculated into local economies by the recipient.

I hear yea. My point is that those plans are too rich and consequences are likely.

There is a difference. Some of the differences favor defined benefit, some 401k. If you have a 401k, it is your money. You can do with it as you will. In 30 years, I have personally paid over 100k into my defined plan. I can't touch a dime of that. If you have a 401k you can borrow against it and you can choose the vehicle of investment.

Most of the problems with governmental defined benefit plans have arisen from the failure of governments to put their share into the plan and trusting unrealistic market gains to make up the difference. That bill has come due.
