I am thinking Moss or Hutton both won't stay. Fleming is also a possibility. Ellingson looks like he is here to stay and Williams is a PG.

Actually I'd say no one at the end of the year and the freshmen will all see where they stand going into next year as there will be minutes to be had. I think one or two may leave at semester next year when they see their classmates and maybe Cook and Bohannon grabbing what's left of the minutes.

Moss and Hutton redshirting makes them the least likely to transfer, unless they don't mind sitting out 2 years in a row or perhaps they were to transfer to a juco and not a D1 school. Ellingson is in the regular rotation so don't see that happening...my guess has been and continues to be Fleming, its simply a matter of numbers and we're overcrowded at the off guard spot and it will be even more crowded next year when Moss is thrown into the mix. You hate to see anyone transfer, but I think Fran and the staff expects at least one with they way they oversigned at the off guard/wing spots during the past two recruiting classes, they will allow the players to settle it in practice and games and based on the law of averages, we are due for a transfer to occur.

also, I think its a shame Fran can't get Williams a few minutes each game during the non-conference, especially with Mike and Sapp starting in the backcourt together. Even a couple minutes per half would be meaningful.

I normally don't respond to these crap threads but I have a question. If one of the redshirt candidates, Moss or Hutton, transfer at the end of this semester when do they become eligible again at a D1 school?

Not until the 2017-18 season, which is why it doesn't make any sense for them to transfer, unless it's after this first semester, which I don't see.

I agree with StormHawk42 on this one. With Clemmons and Gesell both leaving the current true frosh should all see potential for playing time next year. Somebody between Fleming, Moss and Hutton is going to be playing, a lot. Maybe two of them.

Now, do I think someone will leave after this season? Probably. But I think their best move would be give it two years at Iowa first.

I suspect Moss and Hutton came here with eyes wide open relative to the composition of the team and limited minutes. From a competitive standpoint, I am sure both would love to be on the floor, but with 4 of 5 starters graduating, lots of PT available next year.

Outside of PT and relationship with the staff, grades could be an issue for somebody as well. Thus far I haven't seen anyone leave that was a regrettable loss (Hubbard, Ingram, Meyer, Dickerson).

Agree it would be nice to see Williams get some PT...Fran said as much last week (if memory serves). He doesn't have to run the point, just throw him out to spell Clemmons or Jok and see what he can do.

Why are you even bringing this up? All these players will contribute next year

I don't know why you always want to be pushing someone out the door. Last year people were saying Ellingson was basically a sure thing to leave, now we have to find some new freshmen to leave. Just let it go already. If someone leaves then good luck to them. If they all stay I hope they improve and make a big impact.

I can only imagine what it is like as a player to have people coming up to you all they time telling you that the message boards are saying that you are transferring because you did not get enough minutes as a true freshman.

Flemming seems to make the most sense but I think he's in for the long haul. I see a lot of people playing over the next couple of years. Fran is going to have his hands full trying to get pt for the freshman and sophomores next season but he seems to be able to pull it off.

I think its MOSS or Hutton as well. I realize they are red-shirting, but I think MOSS being behind the 8ball with academics might put him in a tight spot.

Just so long as it's not Moss.

Fleming would have to be the obvious choice since he didn't redshirt and expected to see valuable playing time, but I expect him to stay. Williams probably won't transfer this offseason but he's someone I can definitely see transferring at some point. It's not like he has a lot of competition at the PG spot, Fran values shooting (CW can't shoot) which makes me think Bohannon gets the edge, and then Connor comes in the following year.

Iowaguy88........curious as to what makes you think Williams can't shoot/make the rock. I've seen nothing to indicate that he is a brick thrower and he was a double digit scorer in high school, like most of Iowa's recruits.

But Fran's message today about finding a scholarship for Baer makes it sound like he thinks someone will transfer. While I agree probably deserves a scholarship at this point, I don't like the massage publicly. Should be something he talks privately with nick

Or he could get the 1 open schloly available for next year.

Pretty much how it goes on this board. Posters either want a freshman to redshirt or want him to transfer. Anything but have the kid hang in and play some basketball.

I don't know, and I don't care. What I am really curious about is how you are going to exit this world. Heart Attack? Train Crossing accident? Slipping and hitting your head? Avalanche on a ski mountain? Blubonic plague? Losing big time in a slap challenge? Attached by a werewolf? Drug overdose?

I believe the real answer is you are dying of boredom....anyone who needs to start a thread like this must be dying of boredom. You need to get a life, a hobby, or a job! Leave these men's lives alone. I get sick of these threads. These young men don't need these kind of rumors/speculation.

I would guess that no one will transfer after this year, but it is highly likely that someone will transfer after next season. Too early to say how the completion for playing time next year will end up.

My guess is the guys know where they stand in relation to others. The pecking order can be seen everyday in practice and if one or two come to the conclusion they can't beat out the guys ahead of them it's possible they could leave.

I thought it was pretty close who would win time on the court between the wings and unless that has changed I'd expect all to stay and fight for minutes.

I can think of worse ways to go than "blubonic plague" (which I'm guessing is a combination of blue balls and bubonic plague) or being attached by a werewolf. But that's just me.

can't see Moss or Hutton because they're already burning their red-shirts. To transfer they'd be giving up a year of eligibility. Could happen but I'd think they'd give it another year and see where they stand PT wise before they'd make that sacrifice.

Most likely candidate is Flemming...

Have mixed feelings on this...would like them all to stay but I'd also like to see Baer get a scholarship. He deserves it and isn't anywhere near his ceiling IMO.

While I feel for anyone that makes this decision (i.e. once a Hawk, always a Hawk), it does seem likely with the balance of the classes, the depth of roster spots at the 2-3 position, and the contributions of one redshirt freshman already who has demonstrated he deserves a scholarship. If I had to guess, I'd say Fleming as well; however, I'd love for him to prove me wrong. I agree with binsfeldcyhawk2.

Granted I've only seen him in limited time this year and in the PTL, which is likely as much as anyone else so it is a small sample size but in that time he's not the show the ability to shoot, much less be consistent at it. His shot is flat and it leaves the palm rather than the fingertips as it's supposed to; reminds me a lot of Evan Turner's shot.
As for being a double digit scorer in high school, I'd hope so.

You may be right on the Flemming mention and I could see that myself somewhat, but if that happens then that means that the majority of the experts on the Lounge were once again wrong about him, just like they were with Baer and Ellingson, and I'm sure many more over the years.

There is zero logical reason for anyone to transfer before next year for obvious reasons pertaining to new availability of PT.

The only problem is you are dealing with teenagers and they don't always think in ways that make sense.

I would see Zero reason for any of them to leave, Unless therer is someone is so very much unskilled that the idea of completing in the B1G was a serious mistake to begin with. That said, nobody has heard any news of that sort....

With the amount of minutes opening up,Outside of a mama's boy needing to be with their security blanket 2 blocks from home, which I do not see anyone having homesickness, they all stay. Nobody leaves.

Probably so Baer can get a scholly.

Now that I would understand and accept, IF one of our players is not living up to expectatiins, Nor striving to get to where they need to be... if costs the UI well over $100k per player. Easy. Probably closer to double that in scholarship, training, facilities, education assistance, training table, support staff, etc. If the player is not putting in effort, then the door will be shown. As it should be.

Otherwise Baer waits until that scholly is available. If he gets it his junior and senior seasons, which has already been discussed in some form or another, then that would be good.

Everyone at this time last year and all summer were ready to ship Ellingson out. I suspect Fleming will make huge strides in the next year. He is a freshman. There will be playing time available at the 2 the next few years. I supposed the most likely candidates is one of the redshirts. They obviously weren't going to contribute meaningful minutes this year to the team, so I normally I would suspect the same next year. Most kids have played enough basketball, that they are quite developed by the time they are freshmen, especially non-big men. But, next year, there is some serious playing time available, so I would imagine everybody will stick around. Look what the redshirt year did for Baer. Fran realizes his mistake with Oleseni. Of course, they may see Baer as an impediment to playing time, since he will be ahead of them. Just seeing what I saw of Cook in his one televised game, he will need some seasoning as well. But in a good program, guys need to step up.
