Which qb starts next week?

Although Sullivan went up against 2nd stringers, he still looked very good. Only Captain Kirk didn't notice. He will stay with his guy no matter what (Deacon Hill revisited but not nearly as bad).
He did notice, he said it was one of that bad things that happened in the game, Brendan doing well…

Sullivan looked to be faster than most of our WR

He was over 60% completion at NW. Thats around 20% higher than what we’re used to here at Iowa

This year should put to rest who runs the offense. Remember a few weeks before the season kicked off there was talk of Sullivan and Cade being even for starter ?

So Cade wasn’t in game shape (understandable)
Playing poorly tho the coaches say doing well
Makes NO plays for us

And Sullivan can’t play ?

This is ****ing insane

Will Washington be ranked, and will Kirk get emotional after the pressure filled upset victory?

So our only score of the game is on a drive aided by a deceptive qb run. But Cade starts? Screw that. Sullivan forces the defense to guess between him and Johnson on every run.
Exactly right. Sullivan forces the defense to account for the quarterback as a threat. Iowa has been playing 10 on offense against 11 defenders for a couple of seasons. One head scratching decision after another with this coaching staff. " WTF are they thinking" runs through my mind, numerous times, EVERY single game. This staff lost me in the ISU game with their asinine decisions from the one-yard line twice.

What is Cade's Touchdown to Turnover ratio?
From Hawkcentral:

McNamara, in five-plus starts as a Hawkeye against power-conference competition, is a woeful 58-for-109 for 470 yards (4.3 yards per attempt) without a single touchdown pass. He hasn’t topped 100 passing yards in the three power-conference games this season (99 vs. Iowa State, 62 at Minnesota, 98 at Ohio State). It's not always all about stats, but those numbers are hard to ignore.

Cade is improving, he can throw it 30 yards down field instead of 20 now.

Even Dolphin said it yesterday on Kaleb’s TD. I don’t think it was said with the intention with what I heard but just the same, he said that two Ohio State defenders kept their eye on Sullivan on the fake. And that was probably set up by Sullivan‘s run previously in that series. With Cade, no one is following him, because they know they don’t have to. If even one person on defense has to track Sullivan because of his threat to run, that is one less defender for our running back to have to try to avoid. It creates another dimension for the defense to address. Even Ohio State’s quarterback, not a great runner, but effective, was able to keep the defense off-balance enough that it created running lanes for Ohio State.

That’s what Sullivan can bring to the offense. For a team that wants to run, that is a key.

In terms of “improving“, I would argue that Sullivan is “improving“ as well.

Is Iowa really reduced to relying on a sixth year quarterback “improving“ 5 games into the season?

Missed your post. I wrote essentially the same thing later, but you’re spot on about what Sullivan can do that Cade cannot.

My question for this board and those supporting KF is the decision making around the QB role. Why the reluctance to make changes and why the reluctance to get grittier with this role? 4th and foot and Sullivan probably gets the first with a sneak. Sullivan and his mobility perhaps takes some of the heat off KJ. Cades arm is obviously nothing great so Sullivan can’t be any worse there either. This inability to adjust and pivot on Kirk’s part is my biggest objection to his last 5 years of running the program.

Only the last 5 years?

3 TDs 3 INTs (none of the TDs against a P4 team) Not sure how many fumbles he has but he's upside down in the TD/turnover ratio.
The way Cade runs to the huddle after a kickoff resembles an 80 year old man going to the bathroom.

He's clearly not healthy and is just going through the motions.
But since KF earned a suspension recruiting him...KF can't bench him now.

Inability to change QBs had been KF worst quality his whole career.

Above average OL at best, good RB group, below average WR group, solid TE's, condensed boxes with a weak armed and immobile QB.......

"Let's run it back"- Kirk Ferentz
Unfortunately it all starts up front. That hasn’t gotten much better and from what I’ve seen QB play probably won’t either. A change is definitely needed.

It will be Cade, and there will be boos when he takes the field. He’s a great kid and it pains me to say it, but there will be boos. This could get pretty ugly.
It really makes Iowa fans look like dicks, but is any other fan base in the country put in a position to publicly bemoan personnel choices as much as Iowa fans are? There are enough chapters to write a book on Ferentz sticking with the wrong players and coaches despite all evidence to the contrary.
