This year? Oregon is Finesse team. Ohio state is a finesse team. Michigan isn't talented enough to be a bully. Iowa it's gonna be the first team all year to really punch them right in their suck hole and I'm curious to see how sparty handles it. I think this is where Iowa wins the game. I think we're more physical on the lines and over 4 quarters we will beat them down. Nebraska had better d tackles than sparty and we ran the ball well. I just see Iowa's physicality and balance on BOTH sides of the ball is too much for MSU.

Don't think anyone has beat us (MSU) in 3yrs by punching us in the mouth. Stanford, UM, OSU & others have tried to out physical us and failed. The teams that beat us Oregon, OSU,Neb did it speed & big passing plays. Not saying that Iowa can't win by being the more physical team...just saying our team prefers to play that game. one of ou biggest strengths is quality depth in our front 7. So I don't think we'll be saying uncle. And I don't expect Iowa to say uncle either. I expect MSU to be very aggressive play calling & use our playmakers for big plays & not just play power football on offense.

I'm tired of hearing this about these great playmakers you have. Your playmakers are exactly like ours. You only put up 24 on Purdue and you struggled with western Michigan. Iowa doesn't give up big plays. Have you watched any Iowa football in the last 17 years? That's the premise of our defense. And I GUARANTEE you haven't played anyone as physical as us this year. All northwestern or Wisconsin if we're physical up front. Schobert from Wisconsin said we were the most physical team he's seen. You're gonna get punched tomorrow night. And we have just as much depth as you in the front seven. Try to remember we recruit the same damn kids. i think we'll beat you being tougher and more physical for 4 quarters.

Understand your point, but I would never question Sparty's toughness and/or ability to mix it up in a really physical game.

Late 3rd and into the 4th will tell the tale of the tape.

I think our wide outs are a little more explosive.

True we played poorly in the Purdue game. Was up 21-0 at halftime. They fought back in 2nd half to make it a tough game. Credit to Purdue for not quitting. Didn't really struggle vs. WMU. Was up 34-10 midway thru the 3rd quarter and throttled down the offense. BTW...WMU has the best WR combo we faced all year. Daniel Braverman and Corey Davis are both 1st team MAC. Davis will definitely play on Sunday. WMU couldn't run the ball but had 350+ passing.

Yes, I've watched a lot of Iowa football in the last 17 years. Always tough. Very good line play. so yeah I know you're very physical. That still doesn't change the fact that MSU would prefer to play a physical pro style team instead of a spread/speed team. I'm sure you will punch us Saturday. But I'm also sure we'll punch back. We can go toe to toe with anybody, but we're NOT going to have a 70s throwback game. Cook is too good of a passer to play that game. We will throw the ball around and look for explosive plays in the pass game + WR sweeps, etc.

70's throw back game? - like that 10-13 (or whatever) game that iowa won a 3-4 years ago. what a junk game that was, but i was proud of the hawks for taking the W. btw - purdue kind of did the same against us. we got up 20-0 and i thought they're roll over....... NOPE!

i think you're right - your take on the game overall is pretty decent. i'm kind of surprised i'm not seeing more 'cocky' MSU fans out on the boards. only been a couple, but i think they're just trying to have some fun. we're not hearing it in the media (i'm guessing because we're 12-0), but i feel like iowa has taken on that 'media' persona as the team 'you don't want to run into at the end of the year'.

on a side note: to MSU fans, we hawkeye fans must apologize for the complete lack of exposure your game is getting all week. the iowa game is on par with the big 12 south 2nd place game all season long. our poor opponents get skipped over any when they hit the iowa week.

lastly - speaking of punching sparty in the mouth - i hope we at least try. he's made of sponge, its just a show. his muscles and jaw are just a foamy, squishy exterior. :)

As far as not giving up big plays is concerned, I was at the Minnesota/Iowa game this year. You must have missed that one.

I think MSU is a pretty physical team in their own right. This should be a dog fight. Go Hawkeyes!

I'm hardly a cocky MSU guy. I'm concerned. Iowa is good all over. Very good in D backfield. Solidly good everywhere else.
Everyone thinks Cook is NFL 1st round can throw it all over the place good. I never have. He's good. Sometimes surprisingly good.....but he's not Marcus Mariotta of Cam Newton good. Just above average good. The chatter is all about Cook shredding iowa's D. Big mistake. He could, but I doubt it. Iowa is not a p_uss_ team.

Beathard worries me. He hasn't gotten nearly the press or credit for leading a team to 12-0. He has a football pedigree. IT's in his genes. My fear is he plays a flawless, controlled, poised leadership game. His national coming out party. It is not insignificant that he drove Rudock off. Makes all the plays right in front of him. Not running all over and flinging it into tiny creases. Just stands in there. Dumps it when he needs to. No picks. No stupid sacks. Great game management. He plays super solid. No errors. What little of him I've seen is that he's smart and cool under pressure. I hate that in an opponent.

The game iwill be close, close, close.....neither team creates any space....the D's bend, bend...the O's score. I'll be surprised if there's any big plays. Lots of grind em out possessions.

It will come down to the very end. I won't be surprised if it's OT. I will be ecstatic if my Spartans win because I'll know it will be earned. Same with Iowa. I'm already OK if Iowa wins.....just no blowout...then I'll be PO'd.

Have a good game. Should be a lot of fun. Remember, it's just a game.

I'm hoping for a good game. You make good points....... My second favorite team in the big is msu. Only behind my Hawks. Whoever wins this game I'm rooting for from here on out.
