Looks like I'm the young one so far...

Born in '91 and missed out on the 70s/80s so my list would be...

2000 - First real memory of Iowa basketball watching Oliver/Boyd/Reggie
2006 - Got to appreciate a BTT championship more before the cluster F that was NW St
2012 - Felt like Fran was turning the program around after the Lick dumpster fire
2021 - Well isn't it obvious? :)

I'm already hooked on this team. 86-87 has been my favorite team since I started really following the Hawks, but I love this team. Even if Iowa flames out in the first round, this team will have a place in my heart. Good guys, great teammates, and the most fun basketball to watch since 86-87.

69-70 Fred Brown, Dick Jensen, Ben McGilmer, John Johnson, Stick Vidnovic & Chad Calabria,
The standard that all other Hawkeye men’s basketball teams are compared to. The other teams listed are impressive on their own merits but that Ralph Miller 6 Pack team stands alone, basically averaging 100pts/game, especially since they played before the three point line introduction

I am too young to remember the 6 Pack team, but my dad would tell me all about that team. If he were alive he would go for the Miller teams (not only did they not have a three-point line, but they also did not have a shot clock. Unbelievable! Too bad they ran into Artis Gilmore.
As I am too young to remember that team, I have to go with the 80 team.

1987 is my favorite team ever. This year's team is quickly moving up the list with their overachievement.

I'm starting to wonder if they're overachieving or if they're actually just that good. We'll find out this weekend (and hopefully beyond). But, yeah, this team is right up there with 87 for me, too. Just need a little run in the tourney to cement their legacy.

Yeah I'm with you. Overachievement with regards to pre-season expectations certainly. They are far better than expected.

I was too young to enjoy 1970 team.

Favorite teams all depends on Level of success. Ronnie Lester led team overachieved and got to Final-4 so that is best team. That team only finished 5th in Big10.

The 87 team underachieved...the talent was there to win it all and UNLV loss was a big time choke.
Yet they are 2nd favorite team.

This year's team can move above those two, but that his a high bar.

I will say I think Keegan is best player in Iowa Uniform ever---even a great like Ronnie Lester/Roy Marble/ BJ were
only a marginal NBA players. Johnson/Brown from 70 teams...those were different eras and those guys weren't the best player in college B-ball. No offense to Garza, but he didn't have the athleticism + he was center and not a primary ball handler able to create his own shot--- so he is not as good as Keegan.

Dr Tom first team elite 8 / 87. This year's team moves the ball at times on the same level - get the feeling we can compete with anyone. I hope we bring that "angry" vibe like shown at Ohio State again tomorrow.

Dr. Tom’a first/elite 8 teams. They were so packed with talent. I recall listening to the Larry King Show one night during that Tourney and (guest) Curry Kirkpatrick referred to that Iowa team as something like the purest group of thoroughbreds that he had seen.

I was 12 when the 87 team played, and I loved that team and how they dominated. I was of course devastated when they lost in the E8.

Then I loved all of Dr Tom's teams because of their style of play. Even through Dr Tom's last team I really didn't understand the technical side, and political side, of college basketball, so I would say I was just a fan that though Iowa could and would win every game.

Then the championship teams of Recker/Evans and Horner/Bruner/Haluska were really fun, but I knew they had over-achieved and really had no chance in the tourney. Not enough depth, not enough athleticism and not any NBA lottery guys. They were fun and I loved those teams.

Then last year. My favorite "adult" team. They were in the limelight all year and really had a great group of players that were easy to like as they represented Iowa so well. I really thought at the beginning of the year that if Garza continued to dominate and wieskamp could take his game to a dominant NBA level, the role players and depth could really make that team special. But I think that injuries and the fact that, while I love Joe, I don't think he ascended to what I think he could have, so at the end of the season our weaknesses were too great. I guess that is why I didn't get too upset about them losing to Oregon, because I was bracing that it was going to happen. And I guess for me the whole "sweet 16 thing" is really not that big of a deal and I don't know why so many are hung up on it. To me you either have a team that can match up and have a chance or you don't. And we haven't. So for me if we had beaten Oregon last year but lost in the next round there would have been zero difference. But that is just me.

But now, as I write this, I think this team has a chance. I do think there are weaknesses, but there are only a few teams that can exploit them. This team has the first top NBA pick of my lifetime (or ever I guess) and I don't think we are over-achieving at all. I think if this team plays their best basketball, they beat everyone in the field, but, they can still play a B game and still win. So while I love this team, I haven't loved it as long as I loved the 87 or the 21 team, but seem to embody what no other Iowa team has ever done, get measurably better at the end of the season.

So I of course would be very disappointed if this team doesn't make the S16. They are too good to play down to that competition. I wouldn't be terribly upset if they lose to Kansas, but only Kansas because they are the only team on that side that can match up. I would be incredibly disappointed if we lost to Wisconsin because we are just so much better than them, but Auburn will offer some better match ups and I look at that like the Kansas game. Then, if they make the F4, Arizona poses real problems and would not upset at all if they didn't win that logically. Kentucky and Gonzaga are problems too.

Saying all that I am more hopeful for this team than any other in my adult life, and thus this team is now my favorite.

This weekend will determine if this team is worth remembering. As someone who vividly remembers 06 we almost won reg season, won btt, and came into the dance with a team of veterans and and a 3 seed yet people talk about how Alford left the program in the gutter a year later because they choked so hard first round. Few even mention that season which was best this century except last year

I'm glad things have gone well since Feb started but the way Fran mismanaged this team a majority of the season it would take a run here to make my list. I was too young to remember lute so that 87/88 era is tops for me AINEC. Honorable mention to the surviving CMS team 93 and the Wooldridge hawks of 97 who pitino said was toughest team they played all year after after knocking us out. 12-6 in bten that yr, loved Dre

I really think there is a reason a lot of talking heads are picking Iowa to make it to New Orleans. The night-and-day improvement on defense, Keegan, a great win over Purdue to win the BTT, Keegan, going 12-2 since the Penn State fiasco, Keegan, a favorable brackeand did I mention Keegan?

Iowa is a nightmare matchup for many, many teams in the tournament. Only the truly elite can hope to beat the Hawks without playing at their absolute best.

Ronnie Lester would have had an outstanding NBA player if he hadn't ruined his knee. Magic Johnson said he was the best guard he played against in college. I saw him play in person and he was truly amazing.

Not a popular choice, but I've always had a soft sport for the 78-79 team. It was Lute's first tournament team at Iowa and the last team that actually won a share of the B1G title, playing a true round robin schedule. Had some of my favorite players: Ronnie (Jr), Dick Peth, Tommy Norman and Bill Mayfield (Srs.), Krafcisin, Waite, Brookins (Sophs) and the amazing Kevin Boyle (Fr.). Were a fun team to watch until the NCAA contest against Toledo, a game marred by an incredible number of FT's (68 total), 27 of which were attempted by Iowa and only 14 made. Broke my heart at the time, but was encouraged by knowing we had so many of those players coming back and that the dry spell was over and a corner turned.

If the Hawks get to the S16, the 2022 team will join the list in 4th place.
Same teams, just reverse the order.

Always have the most affinity for the 87 team, probably because I'm about the same age as those guys. Still hate to think about that unlv game.

I had a real love of some of those Miller teams right before the 6 pack. Peeples, Perval, Gerry Jones, Sam Williams et al. Only the Big X champ went dancing and TV coverage was minimal. We played crazy tough non conference games like Kentucky, UCLA, Providence, Creighton, UTEP, Stanford, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Loyola, Houston, Davidson, St. Johns, Duquesne and Southern Illinois. At least 2 of these were sweet 16 teams by today's standards....
