I would say it's all out in the open already. Is it merely a coincidence all three sons are at Butler and Connors friend plays for dah Fever? Is there a plan behind the scenes? He could come back but I'm suspicious.
I really think he's been told to tone it down from above. Probably both he and Marge. And I think he's pissed he wasn't offered an extension. And based on this season's results, he shouldn't expect one this year either. Not without strings attached. Such as NCAA tournament or you're gone.Fran's lack of emotion seems very troubling, for the program and for him as a person. It seems odd that we've had so many commitments lately. It's sad that it may end like this. I just wonder if the plan is already in place by all parties involved and everyone is basically waiting for the end of the season.
Piqued my interest as well. Too many second chances. Time to move on and raise the bar.I just wonder if the plan is already in place by all parties involved and everyone is basically waiting for the end of the season.

Did he? I have no sources, but he more or less wore out his welcome. He may have been given an ultimatum and given there was less media/internet coverage, who knows.... But the Pierre Pierce situation probably would have gotten him fired more quickly in these times.I suspect you are right about Fran being unhappy his contract wasn't extended previous to this season. I'm sure he feels his body
of work warranted more guaranteed money. The last extension of 7 years with 60% guaranteed was dumb move by Barta.
With Jack heading to Butler and CMAC already there, I doubt the family wants to hang around Iowa City. Jack incident killing a jogger can't be a good memory.
The only question is the buyout, which would have been even bigger if he'd been given an extension. Iowa is under no obligation to buy him out--they could make him coach out his contract. If Fran is a class act, he'd accept a reduced buyout, take the retirement ceremony at last game of season, and move on. Alford is bashed a lot, but he made the move on his own.

All good questions! The outlook does not bode well for our program now that the BT has added much more West Coast athletic teams. We really need to follow the Wisconsin template for winning sans the dirty play….Akin to how Barry stole Fry’s formula for winning in football. 😎This season was the last straw for me. Same stuff over and over and over - all O, no D. Had teams with All Americans and NBA players and still couldn't make a single Sweet 16. Why would some 4 star recruit be any better? Plus this year's roster construction was bad - somehow only 3 guards in total but only one guy 6-10 or over who is worth a damn? Why did he insist on starting Dembele for so long? Why does he still play him over Tadjo - if Tadjo is that raw, why is he here? How come every other team in college basketball has found the weight room and we haven't? Why is recruiting focusing on wings and ignoring guards yet again?
OK yeah... I wasn't planning to rant that much, but I clearly have made up my mind more than I had realized.
